Millennium Green

The last year has been a year to enjoy the Green since completion with the furniture now installed and the whips growing well. I would like to thank the committee, Peter and the parish Chairman for all the work that has been put in to achieve this result. I would especially like to thank Lynn for her help, whilst we were away, in removing the bags from the bin at the entrance of the Millennium Green, and also to Jo for keeping an eye on things and looking after the noticeboard.

The area is being regularly used by dog walkers as well as those who stop to enjoy the surroundings which offers a natural place to rest.

The spring flowers are blooming over the Green and the spinney is awash with bluebells of all colours. Who would have thought such a transformation of the whole area would have taken place in a relatively short space of time.

Unfortunately, the ducks have not settled in the pond area but maybe they will at a later date. There are many types of birds frequenting the spinney and hopefully they will take residence in the nesting boxes some of which do show signs that they are being used.

Although we have both owl and kestrel boxes, they are not being used at present but fortunately the pigeons have not returned to use them. David Wilkins (the owl man) did say that it may take a while for the and kestrels to settle.

On behalf of the MG Committee I would like to thank the Parish Council for the funds which have helped maintain the meadow. This area is very special not only to me but all those who volunteer and enjoy spending time at the Millenniums Green.

It has been suggested that a tree is planted in remembrance of Harold Wagstaff, who recently died, and was connected to the Millennium Green from the very beginning when the land was bought. I will speak to Peter Watson (Hubbard and Harvey Trustee) as the tree which was planted at Millennium Green, by the Hubbard and Harvey Trust has died and needs to be replaced.

I hope that we have another successful year and that this area continues to flourish.
