The tour will open in Bethel, NY on Friday, June 8th at Bethel Woods Center for the Arts, where Daltrey and his band will be joined on stage by the acclaimed Hudson Valley Philharmonic, showcasing the beloved classics from the 1969 rock opera, including “Pinball Wizard,” “See Me, Feel Me” and more. Tickets go on-sale Friday, February 2 at 10 a.m. at www.BethelWoodsCenter.org, The Bethel Woods Box Office, www.Ticketmaster.com, Ticketmaster outlets, or by phone at 1.800.745.3000. Considered one of the seminal albums of the rock canon, last year The Who played all of TOMMY for the first time in 28 years at the Royal Albert Hall in London as part of a benefit concert for the Teenage Cancer Trust. Roger performed it in its entirety with his band during his 2011 solo tour. The opportunity to bring an orchestral dynamic to the raw emotion and cathartic impact of the songs that cemented Daltrey’s legacy as a vocal powerhouse adds a compelling dimension to the music’s timelessness.

Schmidt iii DISSERTATION ABSTRACT Thomas R. Schmidt Doctor of Philosophy School of Journalism and Communication June 2017 Title: Rediscovering Narrative: A Cultural History of Journalistic Storytelling in American Newspapers, 1969-2001 This dissertation analyzes the expansion of narrative journalism and the institutional change in the American newspaper industry in the last quarter of the 20th century. In doing so, it offers the first institutionally-situated history of narrative journalism’s evolution from the New Journalism of the 1960s to longform literary journalism in the 1990s. This analysis shows that the New Journalism, contrary to popular beliefs, did indeed have a significant impact on daily news production in American newspapers. Yet, this study also demonstrates that the evolution of narrative techniques in late twentieth century American journalism was more nuanced, more purposeful and more institutionally based than the New Journalism myth suggests.

" (Banner by Sven Kramer) Lots for you this month. We have the interview Russ did in the summer for The Hustle. It is a really good interview, as always, well worth listening to. It is fairly long - 1h 38min - so seGle down with it when you have a bit of Hme or have it on in the background while you are doing something else. Dave Williams has wriGen an excellent review of Russ's album 'Winning' for his 'History' series. Then we have a new feature. Dave thought it would be good to get to know other members of this newsleGer community by having 'Readers Profiles'. So I asked him to start us off! It's good to get to know Dave beGer. Now we need to get to know more of you. Please tell us about yourself. You can use Dave's profile as a guide and answer the same quesHons or you can do your own thing. I will put them into the newsleGer in the order in which they come in so, if you would like to feature in next month's, get wriHng very soon. (I won't have internet access at some points coming up so you might not get an immediate reply from me). Sue NEWS " Coming soon....Russ is having a new website built by our very own Sven Kramer. It is almost ready to go live so keep a look out for it. Let us know what you think. THIS MONTH Russ: "I appeared on Old Grey Whistle test in 1975 and on that occasion I had a backing group of new friends, mainly from the Midlands, at that time Alan Wicket was the drummer…We lost touch but not until after he’d played on recording sessions with me.

(Header by Sven) Welcome to our new readers. Please join in. Russ con<nues with stories from his autobiography.....this month, his mum. For those of you who are not on Facebook we have a podcast with John Rogan and a video from Russ that some of our FB friends will have seen/heard already. Dave's ar<cle is part 2 of his interview with Alan "S<cky" Wicket, who was the drummer in Russ's post-Argent band. I can guarantee, I think, that you won't have heard Dave's cover before. Other contribu<ons come from Tony, Ronnie and Markus, who has something for our German friends. Best wishes Sue THIS MONTH FROM RUSS It’s brilliant to be able to communicate with you online - while we can’t play gigs. It’s be8er than the alterna9ve, no communica9on. I think music is the best way to make contact with like-minded people….to me, it appears to reach the parts that words fail to do - I’ve o@en wondered why? There’s something about frequency and rhyme that seems to magnify the words. I play every day, as most of you know….either guitar or piano, then recording the ideas. Just the fact I'm able to do it a@er many years, makes it even more intense - I love it as much as ever…. Anyway, on to something for these weird 9mes…..’Mindfulness’ - It’s something that has always interested me and for years it’s surprised me that medita9on wasn’t taught in schools.

PAUL GOODMAN CHANGED MY LIFE a film by Jonathan Lee Booking Contact: Clemence Taillandier, Zeitgeist Films 201-736-0261 • [email protected] Marketing Contacts: Nancy Gerstman & Emily Russo, Zeitgeist Films 212-274-1989 • [email protected][email protected] A ZEITGEIST FILMS RELEASE PAUL GOODMAN CHANGED MY LIFE A Film by Jonathan Lee Paul Goodman was once so ubiquitous in the American zeitgeist that he merited a “cameo” in Woody Allenʼs Annie Hall. Author of legendary bestseller Growing Up Absurd (1960), Goodman was also a poet, 1940s out queer (and family man), pacifist, visionary, co-founder of Gestalt therapy—and a moral compass for many in the burgeoning counterculture of the ʼ60s. Paul Goodman Changed My Life immerses you in an era of high intellect (that heady, cocktail-glass juncture that Mad Men has so effectively exploited) when New York was peaking culturally and artistically; when ideas, and the people who propounded them, seemed to punch in at a higher weight class than they do now. Using a treasure trove of archival multimedia—selections from Goodmanʼs poetry (read by Garrison Keillor and Edmund White); quotes from Susan Sontag, Martin Luther King, Jr. and Noam Chomsky; plentiful footage of Goodman himself; plus interviews with his family, peers and activists—director/producer Jonathan Lee and producer/editor Kimberly Reed (Prodigal Sons) have woven together a rich portrait of an intellectual heavyweight whose ideas are long overdue for rediscovery. PAUL GOODMAN BIO Born in New York City in 1911, Paul Goodman labored in obscurity as a writer and freelance intellectual until 1960 when the publication of Growing Up Absurd made him famous and a significant moral force of the decade.
