The Spurs media services department is here to serve you and will accommodate your needs as best as we can. The following are a few guidelines which we hope will assist you in your coverage this postseason. CREDENTIALS Home - Regular season credentials are not transferable and do not guarantee admittance to Spurs playoff games (fi rst three rounds only) until they receive proper playoff accreditation. Single-game credential requests should be made by the sports editor or director no later than 24 hours prior to each playoff game or series. All requests should be admitted to Kris Davis by email via [email protected]. All single-game credential requests should be confi rmed with the Spurs media services department prior to arriving at the AT&T Center. Please be advised there is limited media seating, and at times it may not be possible to accommodate every request. We encourage all media to make their requests as soon as possible. Road - All local media planning on covering the Spurs on the road during the fi rst three rounds of the playoffs should make arrangements with Tom James via email at [email protected] or fax at (210) 444-5720. Please include the names of all traveling personnel and the name, address and telephone number of the hotel they will be staying at in the visiting city. Media members will need to make hotel arrange- ments on their own throughout the postseason. A complete San Antonio list will be provided to the Spurs opponent and credentials will be delivered to your hotel prior to the fi rst game of each round. International Requests - All international requests are handled by the NBA International PR Department. Any international media mem- ber interests in covering a Spurs game must fi rst submit a request in writing to the NBA. Requests may be faxed or emailed to: Rachel Walsh at (212) 407-8044 or [email protected]. MEDIA ENTRANCE, WILL CALL & PARKING The media entrance is located on the Northeast side of the AT&T Center directly across from the media parking lot. All approved credentials can be picked up at the media entrance beginning three hours prior to game time. There is a limited number of media parking spaces pro- vided to the media on a fi rst come, fi rst serve basis. The media parking lot is located off of AT&T Center Parkway (Gate D Entrance). If you need to request parking please make arrangements with Kris Davis by email via [email protected] or with Mitch Heckart at mheckart@ attcenter.com. MEDIA AVAILABILITY All interview requests should be directed to Tom James. In accordance with NBA policy, both Spurs and visiting locker rooms will be open to members of the media for a 45-minute period prior to game time and 15 minutes following a conclusion of the game. Players and coaches are available for interviews at this time. Only working members of the media with valid credentials will be allowed into the locker rooms. PRACTICES All team practices are closed to the media with the exception of the last 30 minutes which will be open to the media. Players and staff will be available during this timeframe. Please contact a member of the Spurs media services department to confi rm start of practice times and the site of practice. If you are calling after normal business hours, Tom James will leave practice times on his voicemail. MEDIA WORKROOM The media workroom and media hospitality room are located on the event level in the southeast corner of the AT&T Center, and are accessible only with a valid credential. The rooms open three hours prior to game time. The media workroom is equipped with free wireless internet and telephones. A limited number of telephones will be available to the media throughout the playoffs, although we can not guarantee a phone for everyone. Game notes, media guides, running sheets and other relevant information will be available in the media workroom prior to the game. In addition, play-by-play sheets, halftime and fi nal box scores and postgame quotes will be placed in the media workroom fol- lowing the game. To access the wireless network please check with a member of the Spurs media services upon your arrival to the arena. PHOTOGRAPHERS The photographers workroom will be set up on the event level in the southwest corner of the AT&T Center. The workroom will be equipped with free Ethernet connections and electrical outlets. We ask that all photographers use the Ethernet connections due to the large amounts of data being sent out. The photography areas of the AT&T Center are located along the baselines on both ends of the court. Photographers are asked to keep off the sideline areas in front of or behind the team benches and in front of press row. In addition, please observe NBA rules for player escape routes – an open area approximately fi ve feet on both sides of the basket.

  • The Fire Inside Kobe Bryant
The Fire Inside Kobe Bryant Chris Ballard June 25, 2009 SI A GREAT MOMENT IN HUMILITY IT WAS not. After scoring 18 of his 40 points in the fourth quarter of Game 1 of the Conference finals against Denver, Kobe Bryant said of his scoring prowess, "If I wanted to go out there and put up 35 points a night, I could do that." Granted, the Los Angeles Lakers star was just being honest, but tact would dictate that he let others say such things about him. As you may have noticed, though, Bryant isn't big on tact. Time and again over the last decade he has announced the particulars of his awesomeness. As teammate Luke Walton dryly puts it, "Kobe does not lack for confidence." Just as Bryant's bravado irks some—O.K., many—it also makes him riveting to watch: Like the man himself, the manner in which he bears down is never subtle. Spurs forward Bruce Bowen, Bryant's foil these many years, says there's no indicator of an impending scoring binge, joking that you can't tell "by the way he chews his gum or something." But that's not true at all. Rather, his eruptions are almost comically predictable. Former teammate Devean George, now with the Dallas Mavericks, speaks of "that Kobe face where he starts looking around all pissed off." His coach at Lower Merion High in Ardmore, Pa., Gregg Downer, says he can recognize this expression even on TV. In these moments Bryant's youthful impudence, which flummoxed Del Harris when he was L.A.'s coach during Bryant's first two years in the league, resurfaces.
