Prior to join- ing the Lakers family, Cave had spent time as a student assistant coach and video coordinator for the Pomona-Pitzer men’s basketball team, and he enjoyed previous interning stints with the LA Clippers and the Los Angeles Sparks. Cave was known for his spirit and passion for the sport of basketball and the Lakers organization. He was a loved and valued member of the team and was honored throughout the 2016-17 season with a “Cave” patch on the team’s jerseys. “His energy, positivity and passion for this organization were apparent and made him a favorite among our coaches, players and staff,” said South Bay Lakers Presi- dent, Joey Buss. “Adam came to work each day with the goal of making this team the best that it could be, and that is a lesson that won’t be forgotten with his passing. We consider ourselves lucky to have known Adam. “ Adam is survived by his parents, Robert and Susan, as well as his brother, Ian. 4 LAKERS STAFF 6 Team Directory 7 Joey Buss 7 Nick Mazzella 8 Coby Karl 8 Isaiah Fox 9 Brian Walsh Paul Woolpert 9 Heather Mau 10 Misha Cavaye 10 Jesse Buss 10 5 TEAM DIRECTORY Executive Owner Buss Family Trusts President / CEO Joey Buss Senior Vice President of Legal Affairs / Secretary Jim Perzik General Counsel Dan Grigsby Senior Vice President, Finance / CFO Joe McCormack Manager, Business Administration Brian Long Basketball Operations General Manager Nick Mazzella Head Coach Coby Karl Assistant Coach Brian Walsh, Isaiah Fox, Dane Johnson, Sean Nolen Player Development Coach Metta World Peace Head Athletic Trainer Heather Mau Strength & Conditioning/Massage Therapy/ Misha Cavaye Equipment Manager Video Coordinator Anthony Beaumont Basketball Operations Coordinator Nick Lagios Director of Scouting Jesse Buss Travel Coordinators Kristen Luken Media Relations Coordinator, Media Relations Noah Camarena Community Relations & Special Projects Coordinator, Community Relations Alison Darnell Ticketing & New Media Sales Representative Stephen Robbins Director, New Media and Technology Nick Kioski Manager, New Media Ty Nowell Digital Content Coordinator Ryan Young Graphic Designer Erica Martin Game Operations / Entertainment Vice President, Facilities & Building Operations Lisa Estrada Sr. Manager, Game Entertainment Robert Sanchez Game Entertainment Manager Jessica Elliott Public Address Announcer Jason Barquero Administration VP Information Tech/ Chief Technology Officer Tommy Yamada Executive Director, Information Technology Rick Allen Director, Legal and Corporate Administration Terree Sholl Director, Payroll and Personnel Diane Rogers 6 PRESIDENT / CEO JOEY BUSS The South Bay Lakers enter their 11th year as a franchise in 2017-18, and team President/CEO Joey Buss has led the Lakers minor league affiliate every step of the way. Now in his senior role for more than a decade, Buss is responsible for overseeing the SB Lakers business and basketball operations while also serving as Vice President of Research and Development for the Los Angeles Lakers, where he is responsible for exploring new technologies and strategies for business and basketball development. Behind the leadership of Buss, the South Bay Lakers franchise has established itself as one of the G League’s top producers of NBA talent. In fact, the minor league affiliate has helped to develop 19 assignment players for the Los Angeles Lakers, while former South Bay Lakers have earned NBA call-ups on 26 occasions. On the court, South Bay has won three division titles and has advanced to the NBA G League Finals on two occasions, including a 2015-16 run that saw the team finish one win short of a title. Buss and Nick Mazzella work closely with Earvin “Magic” Johnson, Rob Pelinka and Coach Luke Walton to construct the Lakers Summer League and Training Camp rosters, while managing all G League Call-Ups and assignment player decisions. Most recently, the Summer League roster they constructed went on to win the 2017 Las Vegas Summer League Championship. Prior to assuming his current position with the South Bay Lakers, Buss spent a year preparing for his role as Lakers alternate governor, working closely with both Jeanie Buss and Tim Harris, longtime executives in the business operations department for the team. Not long after becoming an alternate governor, Buss accepted the Larry O’Brien Trophy on behalf of the organization after the Lakers defeated the Orlando Magic in the 2009 NBA Finals. After graduating from the University of Southern California, Buss served as a coaching associate for the Lakers during the 2006-07 season. Buss got his first glimpse into the business of basketball at the age of 20, when he held a summer internship in the basketball operations department of the nearby Los Angeles Sparks for the 2004 and 2005 seasons. Away from the court, Buss and his wife Dr. Nicole Buss reside in Rancho Palos Verdes with their sons Benjamin and Oliver. Dr. Nicole Buss earned her doctorate degree in Occupational Therapy at USC and serves on the Board of Directors for Town & Country Nursery School. GENERAL MANAGER NICK MAZZELLA A member of the Lakers organization since 2004, General Manager Nick Mazzella enters his fifth season with the South Bay Lakers. In this role, he is responsible for the day-to-day management of the team, serving as point person for all personnel decisions, contract negotiations, salary cap concerns and scouting for the South Bay Lakers. Mazzella also serves as the Director, Research and Development for the Los Angeles Lakers. In his role with Los Angeles, Mazzella oversees the Summer League roster and assists Los Angeles Basketball Operations with Training Camp invitees. With an eye for developing young talent while remaining competitive on the court, Mazzella had an immediate impact for the South Bay Lakers after taking over as GM in 2013. In his first season, South Bay won the West Division Title after finishing with a 31-19 record, the second-best mark in the G League. Earlier that year, Mazzella orchestrated a trade for Manny Harris, who after only a month became the first South Bay player to receive an NBA Call- Up to the Los Angeles Lakers. Three other players - Malcolm Thomas, Shawne Williams and James Southerland - would go on to receive call-ups throughout the year, while two members of the South Bay Lakers staff were added to NBA benches in Luke Walton and Thomas Scott.
