General Terms and Conditions for the Saastalcard and Guest Passes
General terms and conditions for the SaastalCard and guest passes Subject 1. Guests resident at the Saas-Fee/Saas Valley location will receive a “SaastalCard” (SC) from their host for the duration of their stay, provided that the host has a valid contract with Saas- Fee/Saastal Gästekarte GmbH. If this is not the case, the guest will receive a guest pass (Gästekarte, or GK). The “SaastalCard” is like the guest pass but includes additional features (e.g. mountain lift and PostAuto services). 2. The host will prepare the SC or GK on the day of arrival. Every resident guest (aged 6 and older) receives an SC or a GK. The pass must be filled out with the owner’s surname and forename, the duration of their stay, their date of birth and their accommodation type. The SC is only valid if the guest is staying at the accommodation specified. The SC can only be issued electronically. In exceptional cases (where the lessor is not resident at the location), the SC may be printed by the tourism office for a yearly fee of 150 CHF. The information must be recorded by the lessor in the Fertatel CardSystem and must be reported to the tourism tax department at least one week prior to the guest’s arrival. The SCs are then printed by the tourism office and held at the service counter ready for collection. 3. Manually completed guest passes (for service providers without access to the internet or a printer) are numbered and are assigned to one specific user. Manually completed guest passes and electronic guest passes are considered of equal value. -
Streiflichter Zur Hotel- Und Tourismusgeschichte Im Saastal Bis Zum Ersten Weltkrieg 1
STREIFLICHTER ZUR HOTEL- UND TOURISMUSGESCHICHTE IM SAASTAL BIS ZUM ERSTEN WELTKRIEG 1 Roland Flückiger-Seiler 1 Die Entdeckung und Erforschung der Alpenwelt Wichtige Grundlagen für die Entdeckung der Schweizer Alpen als «Garten Edens» leisteten engagierte Forscher und Schriftsteller bereits im frühen 18. Jahrhun- dert. -

The A.M.A. Alpine Meet, 1959
214 THE A.M.A. ALPINE MEET, 1959 THE A.M.A. ALPINE MEET, 1959 BY E. J. E. MILLS N MAY 1957 the Army Mountaineering Association came into being. The loss of easy access to the Himalaya had in no way diminished the numbers of post-war soldier mountaineers. As in civil life, mountaineering was gaining a larger following in the Army. Their enthusiasm had been demonstrated by the Parachute Brigade Expedi tions to Ruwenzori in 1954 and Alaska1 in 1956. These two ventures had also shown that if the right approaches were made, the \Var Office were prepared to give support and encouragement. By early 1957 the planning of the Army-inspired British-Pakistani Forces Himalayan Expedition had begun and in that same year there were no less than seven major corps or regimental mountaineering clubs in existence. 1\llountaineering was still not, however, officially recognised as a sport by the Army and as such was denied the advan tages mainly financial which other pursuits enjoyed. This was anomalous, for climbing was pursued far more actively and enthusiasti cally than many 'official' sports. It was therefore obvious that the interests of Army climbers would best be served by the formation of an authoritative body which could gain this recognition and foster mountaineering in the service. ) The first moves to set up such an organisation were made by Col. Gerry Finch. The idea of the Army Mountaineering Association was largely his and, although supported by several officers, who were also members of the Alpine Club, it was through his efforts and enthusiasm that the Association came into being. -

Choosing your holiday destination is no doubt the key task as far as holiday plans are concerned. Don't leave anything to chance and take your time be- fore making a decision. This booklet offers you an opportunity to immerse yourself in the beauty of this region and discover the diversity and natural beauty of the Saas Valley. However, a successful holiday also depends on your own input: leave the daily grind and work behind and relax. Recharge in this magical mountain landscape which is bursting with energy. Allow the giant mountains and their glaciers, the sun and crystal-clear water, fragrant woods, mountain herbs and fauna to take effect on your body. Some of the powerful larches were in this beautiful valley long before tourists first set foot in it. Encounters with the locals of the Saas Valley, their brown, sun-worn houses and barns make this a memorable holiday. Enjoy with an ease you've never experienced be- fore. This is how good a holiday can be. This summer past saw the «Saastal» being awarded with the stamp of quali- ty slogan «families welcome». JULIAN ALPS TRIGLAV NATIONAL PARK 2The Julian Alps
1 JULIAN ALPS TRIGLAV NATIONAL PARK www.slovenia.info 2The Julian Alps The Julian Alps are the southeast- ernmost part of the Alpine arc and at the same time the mountain range that marks the border between Slo- venia and Italy. They are usually divided into the East- ern and Western Julian Alps. The East- ern Julian Alps, which make up approx- imately three-quarters of the range and cover an area of 1,542 km2, lie entirely on the Slovenian side of the border and are the largest and highest Alpine range in Slovenia. The highest peak is Triglav (2,864 metres), but there are more than 150 other peaks over 2,000 metres high. The emerald river Soča rises on one side of the Julian Alps, in the Primorska re- gion; the two headwaters of the river Sava – the Sava Dolinka and the Sava Bohinjka – rise on the other side, in the Gorenjska region. The Julian Alps – the kingdom of Zlatorog According to an ancient legend a white chamois with golden horns lived in the mountains. The people of the area named him Zlatorog, or “Goldhorn”. He guarded the treasures of nature. One day a greedy hunter set off into the mountains and, ignoring the warnings, tracked down Zlatorog and shot him. Blood ran from his wounds Chamois The Triglav rose and fell to the ground. Where it landed, a miraculous plant, the Triglav rose, sprang up. Zlatorog ate the flowers of this plant and its magical healing powers made him invulnerable. At the same time, however, he was saddened by the greed of human beings. -
