HED ChemSAC (March 18, 2015) approved a proposal entitled: “ChemSAC Recommendations on “Crop Grouping – Part XVA: Analysis of the USDA IR-4 Petition to Amend the Crop Group Regulation 40 CFR § 180.41 (c) (26) and Commodity Definitions [40 CFR § 180.1 (g)] Related to Crop Group 19 Herb and Spice Group. Original Combined Herbs and Spices” which would divide the Herb and Spice Group into two separate crop groups one for the Herb Crop Group 25 and one for the Spice Crop Group 26 based on the distinctions between herbs and spices. The above mentioned herb and spice crop group petition requested the following four herb proposals: 1. Le foglie tritate insaporiscono, con un gradevole aroma simile a Satureja nepetoides Famiglia LAMIACEAE quello della menta, numerosi piatti di carne, pesce e funghi. Vi si può produrre del miele, ma è rarissimo, perché la pianta, anche MENTUCCIA, NEPETELLA se abbastanza comune, non è mai abbondante; comunque è molto bottinata dalle api ed è buona una fonte di nettare e ETIMOLOGIA - L'etimologia del nome Satureja è incerta. Forse polline. In Sicilia entra a far parte dell'aromatizzazione delle olive da tavola. Nel Lazio si usa per la preparazione dei carciofi alla deriva dalla radice latina "satura" che significa "sazia", in riferimento alle supposte proprietà digestive dei succhi delle romana.

Hence the need to design a database of the Italian alimurgic flora: AlimurgITA. Only strictly alimurgic taxa were chosen, excluding casual alien and cultivated ones. The collected data come from an archive of 358 texts (books and scientific articles) from 1918 to date, chosen with appropriate criteria. For each taxon, the part of the plant used, the method of use, the chorotype, the biological form and the regional distribution in Italy were considered. The 1103 taxa of edible flora already entered in the database equal 13.09% of Italian flora. The most widespread family is that of the Asteraceae (20.22%); the most widely used taxa are Cichorium intybus and Borago officinalis. The not homogeneous regional distribution of WEPs (maximum in the south and minimum in the north) has been interpreted. Texts published reached its peak during the 2001–2010 decade. Many of these combinations are reported for the first time in Sri Lanka. The impact of introducing new plants on the dynamics of abundance and distribution of butterflies, the possibility of butterflies being pests on crops, and observations of LFPs of rare butterfly species, are discussed. In addition to these aldehydes, 3-sulfanyl-hexanal and 3-sulfanyl-hexan-1-ol were discovered for the first time in this herb. The fresh leaves are pungent when they are chewed, although the active compound has never been identified. The pungency of Persicaria hydropiper (L.) Spach (formerly Polygonum hydropiper L., synonym water pepper) is produced by polygodial, a 1,4-dialdehyde derived from drimane terpenoids. These effects are usually irreversible if appropriate strategies cannot be taken immediately after invasion, resulting in high cost of managing them both in rangelands and farmlands. With time, these non-edible plant species will result in a decreased grazing or browsing area and can lead to local extinction of native plants and animals due to decreased food availability. Management of invasive weeds has been challenging over years as a result of increasingly failure of chemical control as a method due to evolution of resistant weeds, higher cost of using chemical herbicide and their effects on the environment. While traditional methods such as timely uprooting and cutting presents an alternative for sustainable invasive weeds management they have been associated with promotion of germination of undesired weeds due to soil disturbance. The fact that chemical and traditional methods for invasive weed management are increasing failing nature based invasive plants management approaches such as competitive facilitation of the native plants and the use of other plant species with allelopathic effects can be an alternative management approach.

In Mexico, more than 250 species with edible stems, leaves, vines and flowers, known as “quelites,” are collected or are cultivated and consumed. The assessment of the quelite composition depends on the chemical characteristics of the compounds being evaluated; the protein quality is a direct function of the amino acid content, which is evaluated by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), and the contribution of minerals is evaluated by atomic absorption spectrometry, inductively coupled plasma-optical emission spectrometry (ICP-OES) or ICP mass spectrometry. The total contents of phenols, flavonoids, carotenoids, saponins and other general compounds have been analyzed using UV-vis spectrophotometry and by HPLC.
