We continue to pray for God to get us through Covid-19 as well as many of the other events that rocked our country last year. As we entered 2021, not only did we embark on a new year but also a new theme for the Kroc Center. You may or may not be aware that each year we have a Kroc Theme. Last year it was “United”, this year in 2021 it is “Transformation”. I think that the word “Transformation” is such an exciting word for us to think about and consider what that means for us. Transformation means being changed, hopefully into something better. It can mean building muscle or losing weight, learning to swim or a musical instrument. It can mean being part of a program where we work on our fitness or learning to shoot a basketball. Whatever we do that helps us make a change in our lives that changes us for good is “Transformation”. Those things mentioned are all external, but true “Transformation”, the really exciting “Transformation” is in- ternal. Real “Transformation” is from the inside out, and truly life-changing. This “Transformation can only take place in relationship with Jesus Christ. FULL DIRECTORY AT 2 Corinthians 5:17 says, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ he is a new creation. The old is gone, KROCCENTERCHICAGO.COM/DIRECTORY the new has come.” When we come to Jesus and ask Him to forgive us of our sins, He forgives and we are transformed into a new creation. External “Transformation” is important for our health and growth, but internal “Transformation” is life-changing and is eternal. If you want to learn more about this ”new life in Christ” please join us for worship on Sunday mornings at 11:00 a.m. and Bible Study on Sundays at 10:00 a.m. or Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. May God bless you! • Our Globe Has Been Watching Over OTOW and Posing for Pictures for 50 Years by Doug Kates There Is Only One World
October 2016 Published Since 1968 Only Good News for 48 Years Volume 48 No. 10 Our Globe has been watching over OTOW and posing for pictures for 50 years By Doug Kates There is only one world. And the beautiful, unique symbol welcoming residents and visitors to On Top of the World every day, is a reminder to everyone that our world is very special. Exactly 50 years ago, our Globe, at the front entrance, sat proudly in its gar- den for the first time. It has weathered storms, undergone improvements, received several fresh coats of paint, has been surrounded by hundreds of different flower schemes and most recently, witnessed a complete reno- vation of the entire garden area – includ- ing new fountains. But despite all the caretaking, one thing has been consistent, the Globe has been the icon for this community since 1966. “The Globe was a part of the entire story since day one,” said Kenneth Colen, current president, and son of Sidney Co- len, who dreamed up this entire world of his own. “The Globe was an anchor for the sculpture garden and an enduring legacy reminding visitors and residents that there is only one world, and we, in some small way, are part of it.” Sidney Colen never considered a dif- ferent centerpiece for the garden. Ken- neth said his dad wanted something mem- orable, something that would get noticed, something out of the ordinary, and he wanted to create a buzz. (OTOW News photo by Doug Kates) “The process took about 10 months, as I recall,” Kenneth said.
