October 2016 Published Since 1968 Only Good News for 48 Years Volume 48 No. 10 Our Globe has been watching over OTOW and posing for pictures for 50 years By Doug Kates There is only one world. And the beautiful, unique symbol welcoming residents and visitors to On of the World every day, is a reminder to everyone that our world is very special. Exactly 50 years ago, our Globe, at the front entrance, sat proudly in its gar- den for the first time. It has weathered storms, undergone improvements, received several fresh of paint, has been surrounded by hundreds of different flower schemes and most recently, witnessed a complete reno- vation of the entire garden area – includ- ing new fountains. But despite all the caretaking, one thing has been consistent, the Globe has been the icon for this community since 1966. “The Globe was a part of the entire story since day one,” said Kenneth Colen, current president, and son of Sidney Co- len, who dreamed up this entire world of his own. “The Globe was an anchor for the sculpture garden and an enduring legacy reminding visitors and residents that there is only one world, and we, in some small way, are part of it.” Sidney Colen never considered a dif- ferent centerpiece for the garden. NOTICE Important bulletin for all On Top of the World residents

A new standard has been implemented for sealants that will affect window, awning and air conditioning contractors performing work for OTOW residents.

Residents should be aware that due to an extremely high failure rate, silicone sealants are no longer approved for use as a caulking and weatherproofing product within On Top of the World.

Failure of the silicone sealant bond has resulted in water intrusion into units. This has resulted in significant water damage and costly repairs. WATER INTRUSION is a serious issue that may damage belongings and lead to mold growth.

Protect yourself by asking your contractor in advance if they are using an ACRYLIC URETHANE or POLY URETHANE sealant recommended for use by your Association. Applying the proper sealant, in accordance with the manufacturer’s specifications, may prevent water intrusion.

Detailed information is available at the Community Service Office in the East Activity Center. Thank you for your attention to this matter. Personal Safety Seminar offered valuable security tips

What do you notice as you look out your condo window, when you leave a community event, or even when you take out the trash? Anything suspicious? Anyone suspicious? If you do, The Crime Prevention & Community Awareness Unit of the Pinellas County Sheriff’s office wants to hear from you. That’s the message we heard at last month’s very informative “personal safety” seminar sponsored by On Top of the World’s Community Service Office. Although we always think of our community as a very safe place to live, there are many things we should/could be doing to make it even safer. ATTENTION WEST-SIDE DRIVERS • As you enter on World Parkway and approach Americus Boulevard, remember to come to a complete stop before making your turn.
