NEW Press Information Coburg, December 10th, 2010 NEW 2 The legend returns. The NEW STRATOS will be officially presented on 29./30.11.2010, at the Paul Ricard Circuit in Le Castellet. The legendary Lancia Stratos HF was without a doubt the most spectacular and successful rally car of the 70s. With its thrilling lines and uncompro- mising design tailored to rally use, the Stratos not only single-handedly rewrote the history of rallying, it won a permanent place in the hearts of its countless fans with its dramatic performance on the world’s asphalt and gravel tracks – a performance which included three successive world championship titles. For Michael Stoschek, a collector and driver of historic racing cars, as well as a successful entrepreneur in the automotive supply industry, the development and construction of a modern version of the Stratos represents the fulfillment of a long-held dream. Back in 2003, the dream had already begun to take on a concrete form; now, at last, it has become a reality: In November 2010, forty years after the Stratos’ presentation at the Turin Motor Show, the New Stratos will be publicly presented for the first time at the Paul Ricard Circuit. The legend returns. NEW 3 A retrospective. It all began in 1970, at the Turin exhibition stand of the automobile designer, Bertone. The extreme Stratos study on display there – a stylistic masterpiece by the designer Marcello Gandini – didn’t just excite visitors, but caught the attention of Cesare Fiorio, Lancia’s team manager at the time… and refused to let go. -

! 1976 Lancia Stratos HF Stradale Chassis No. 1595 Registration UFC 235P • An extremely rare opportunity to own a wonderfully original and patinated example of one of the most iconic designs of its era. • Reputedly owned by a close personal friend of Enzo Ferrari. • In its current ownership for most of its life so far having been purchased by him, from the Modena Ferrari dealership, in 1986. • Still accompanied by its original dated registration booklet, which includes Modena tax receipts from 1978 August 1982. • Accompanied by two sets of Campagnolo 14” magnesium wheels, and one set of modern Compomotive 5 spoke wheels with Yokohama tyres fitted for ease of road use. Having previously collaborated on it’s designs with Pininfarina, Lancia became the focus of Carrozzeria Bertone, who wished to do business with Lancia. Bertone set about penning a design to capture the imagination of the fellow Turninese firm. Bertone was aware that Lancia was looking for a replacement for the Fulvia with a view for use in competition, so set about creating a striking masterpiece around the running gear of a Fulvia Coupé. The product was dubbed the Stratos Zero, and Bertone himself drove it to the Lancia factory. Upon arrival, it is said that Bertone received great applause from the Lancia workers who looked upon the fascinating lines which had been created. T. + 44 (0)1285 831 488 E. [email protected] www.williamianson.com ! Lancia was apparently impressed, and decided to work together with Bertone on the Stratos project. The Stratos Zero concept became the centre piece of Lancia’s presence at the 1970 Turin Motor Show and wowed onlookers with it’s futuristic proportions, and in turn brought exciting publicity for the manufacturer. -

Nonetheless, in 1922, the Emperor Yoshihito, known as Taisho, awarded Martini & Rossi the title of ‘Suppliers to the Imperial House of Japan’. The first cases of vermouth had been delivered to Yokohama in 1871 and the custom of the Italian aperitivo spread quickly. Pirelli Pensa Anche Ai Rally Storici Con Il Nuovo P7 Corsa Classic | 1

Stars of the Stage
STARS OF THE STAGE When the World Rally Championship first began in 1973, only the car manufacturers fought for a crown; it wasn’t until 1979 that the drivers were recognised with their own world title. They soon made up for lost time, however, and over the past four decades the WRC has been a constant source of drama, heroism and displays of unbelievable skill. So as the Festival celebrates 40 years of the World Rally Drivers’ Championship this weekend, we remember some of those who have fought for and won the sport’s greatest prize STORY BY ANGUS FRAZER Left: Petter Solberg and co-driver Phil Mills celebrate victory in the 2002 Rally GB. Right: Sébastien Ogier powers his Citroën to third in the 2019 Argentine Rally Rallying’s first World Champion proved that while sublime skill and dogged determination are both prerequisites for victory, ruthlessness Björn is not. Described by those who knew him as a true gentleman (and sometimes as a teddy bear), the late Björn Waldegård won the inaugural World Rally Drivers’ Championship in 1979 (prior to that, the competition had Waldegård been held for two years as an FIA ‘Cup for Drivers’, won by Sandro Munari in 1977 and Markku Alén in 1978). All through that season, Waldegård battled Hannu Mikkola, his team-mate not just at Ford in the pace-setting Escort RS but also at Mercedes-Benz. The German company had 1979 hired the duo to pilot the powerful if unwieldy 5.0-litre V8 automatic 450SLC Coupé on the Safari and Ivory Coast events.
