Or a fluid season of see it/buy it and see it/wait for it? The key word is fluid, as in… Gender Fluid. As more women lead the same business lives as men, the more the clothes for those shared needs become less sex-specific. Raf Simons of Calvin Klein and Anna Sui showed men and women in identical outfits. For the first time, significant numbers of male models shared the runways with female models. Some designers showed menswear separately from women’s wear but sequentially at the same site. Transgender Fluid. Marc Jacobs and Proenza Schouler hired transgender models. Transsexuals also modeled in London, Milan and Paris. On the runways, diversity is the meme of the season. Model selections are more inclusive—not only gender fluid, but also age fluid, race fluid, size fluid, religion fluid. And Location Fluid. Philipp Plein leaves Milan for New York. Rodarte’s Kate and Laura Mulleavy leave New York for Paris. Tommy Hilfiger, Rebecca Minkoff and Rachel Comey leave New York for Los Angeles. Tom Ford returns to New York from London and Los Angeles. Given all this fluidity, you could say: This is Fashion’s Watershed Moment. The moment of Woman as Warrior—armed and ready for the battlefield. The Lingerie Salesmen Gary chases his dream job, to become a sales rep for a lingerie wholesaler. The story is set in 1968. 1 | P a g e As Gary Jones sat in the hotel restaurant in Norwich eating his steak and chips he reflected on what had been a good week so far for sales. It was a Thursday night in October 1968. He had secured several big orders from customers in his patch. He had been on the road for three days and was looking forward to getting home and seeing his wife in Peterborough tomorrow. Perhaps he might sit at the bar for a drink after dinner. There only seemed to be one other man at the bar, nursing a beer. Nine months ago, he had been working for a tractor dealer in Peterborough. Sometimes he had to travel round Cambridgeshire, Lincolnshire and Norfolk, selling spare parts. Although he was a successful salesman he found it slightly dull. He had been looking for a new job that paid bonuses based on sales as he knew he would make more money that way. It was his wife who had pointed out the advert in the local paper for a sales rep for a local firm, called Webbers. He had seen the ad but had skipped over it. The sales rep would be selling women’s lingerie and hosiery to department stores and family run businesses anywhere in the UK. Although the firm was also based in Peterborough it would probably mean being away from home most weeks. “But I don’t know anything about women’s clothes, “he said in protest.

Veiled Muslim women' s rights to employment and free from discrimination Why veiled Muslim women shall be protected from abusive general ban Basri Durohad, 920408-2318 Human Rights Bachelor Thesis 15 credits Spring semester 2021 Supervisor: Anders Melin Abstract The practice of wearing hijab has been around for hundreds of years and around the world by Muslim women. It has been revealed that the decision to wear hijab is varied among Muslim women ranging from religious convictions to the consideration of the attire as a tool for empowerment. This paper, which utilizes a normative method with an argumentative structure, will defend the right of veiled Muslim women to employment and free from discrimination, and aims to clarify why the general ban on religious sign, specifically on hijab in this regard, not conforming to the basic principles of human rights . The argumentation will include a discussion and critiques regarding the two core principles in favor of banning hijab in the field of employment and comes to the conclusion that they appear to be built on weak grounds. Furthermore, some relevant conflicting principles regarding the hijab issue within the field of employment will be discussed. The conclusion maintains that veiled Muslim women shall not be pushed into the corner of the society by the two dominant discourses which are now included in the written legislations within the European laws and national laws. The paper concludes by stating that veiled Muslim women shall be accommodated to work and contribute to the European mainstream employment just like females from other groups.
