Day One guests are met at Amsterdam’s Schiphol airport by MHT’s Jo Hook who will be in place to meet guests off the 09:05 arrival flight. The group then travels down by train from Schiphol to Arnhem arriving c11:45. Guests get checked in to our central Arnhem hotel before picking up a packed lunch and heading off.

Guests are taken by taxi to our furthest point: the initial British Drop and Landing Zones to the west of Arnhem where we discuss the overall Market Garden Plan and the deployment of German troops in the area. During the trip we discuss the personalities Scars of battle who would become significant throughout the course of the nine day operation. We then walk to the “Culvert” at a location of significant importance to the advance on Arnhem where we discuss the initial failure of 1st AB recce squadrons. From the Culvert we take a gentle stroll to Oosterbeek where we go into detail on the 1st and 3rd Para Bns as well as discussing German initial reactions to the landings.

From Oosterbeek we catch a bus back to our hotel for a wash and brush up before going out to dinner in Arnhem.
