The report first focuses on Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), the largest airport LAWA operates, while subsequent sections cover LA/Ontario International Airport (ONT), Van Nuys Airport (VNY), and LAWA’s landholdings in Palmdale. Putting It in Perspective During the last decade, the average cost of a dozen large Grade A eggs jumped from 91 cents to $1.66, an increase of 82.4 percent. Yet the Air Transport Association (ATA) reports that the average domestic round-trip ticket cost just $1.81 more in 2010 than at the turn of the decade—$316.27 as compared to $314.46 in 2001 (excluding taxes). The Board was made an independent agency by the Federal Aviation Act of 1958 (72 Stat. 731), effective January I, 1959. The CAB was given responsibility for regulating economic aspects ofair carrier operations, promulgating aafety standards, investigating accidents, and promoting international air transportation. The CAB authori2ed domestic air carriers to engage in interstate and foreign transportation and regulates the operations offoreign air carriers in the United States. It had jurisdiction over subsidies paid air earners and over tariffs, rates, and fares charged for air transportation and for carrying the mail. The CAB, which regulated the accounting procedures ofair carriers and their financial and business relationships, required the carders to file regular financial aod operating reports aod made that dsta availshle to other Government agencies and the public. The Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB) cessed to exist (sunsetted)onDecernber 31, 1984. SUMMER JULY 2015 #60 The above item is from the May/June 1964 SUNLINER NEWS. It was preceded by an article in the October 1963 issue of the newsletter which detailed Joe’s courageous story. It is reprinted on page 3. Joe retired from Frontier in 1984 after 38 years of service as an aircraft mechanic in DEN. His story reminds us once again that life is full of heroes, often quiet and unassuming, but they are all around us - we need only stop and listen to find them. The Feb/Mar 1978 issue of the FRONTIER NEWS has another report on Joe: “I waited until I was blind before I learned to ski,” says Aircraft Technician Joe Pasqua, “and now I’m a champion.” In more ways than one. An employee of the company for 30 years, Pasqua is a man who’s good at his job (in the tire and wheel shop) and almost anything else he takes on. Through the efforts of the Denver International Airport Lions Club, a fund raising organization whose members are associated with Stapleton, he took up skiing four years ago at Loveland.
