Graduate School of Social Sciences, founded in 1996, is the largest and most experienced institution among foundation universities providing graduate in . Graduate Programs There are 27 graduate and 11 doctorate programs at our school. The Master’s (with thesis) programs consist of at least seven courses (21 credits), a seminar course and a thesis study. Our non-thesis Master’s programs consist of at least 10 courses (30 credits) and a term project course. Our programs offer an academic background that observes and tracks the ongoing development process for individuals to improve themselves. This background was designed in accordance with the basic values of the University and for the purpose of training individuals who are needed by the rapidly advancing global society and who will be able to think analytically, solve problems, are open to innovations, respect the environment, the society and its ethical values, and have creative, leader and executive qualities. The doctorate program consists of at least 7 courses (21 credits), seminar, comprehensive exam, thesis proposal, thesis supervision, thesis defense presentation for graduate students with a Thesis Master’s Degree. Department of Anthropology Thesis Master’s Program in Anthropology The Master’s Program in Anthropology is based on the assumption that complex dynamics that have permeated the cultural systems of societies must be analyzed in order to understand today's societies. The aim of the program is to provide students with theoretical background and research skills necessary to study and understand contemporary social and cultural phenomena, topics and problems with an in-depth and cross-cultural comparative perspective. 2. Department of Cognitive Sciences Thesis Master’s Program in Cognitive Sciences Cognitive Science studies the human mind with a multidisciplinary approach. The functional and neuroanatomical aspects of cognitive processes in the human mind and the modeling of these processes in a machine are the main research areas of Cognitive Science. Research interests include linguistics, memory, artificial intelligence, mathematical modeling of the mind, neuroanatomy, emotion, visual perception, and the self. The Yeditepe University Cognitive Science Program covers six main areas. These main areas are Computer Science, Linguistics, Cognitive Psychology, Mind Philosophy, Cognitive Anthropology and Neuroscience. Once students complete their courses, they write a thesis that combines at least two areas in Cognitive Sciences under the supervision of their advisors. Department of Journalism Thesis Master’s Program in Journalism The aim of the Master’s Program in General Journalism is to ensure that prospective media professionals and media executives graduated from communication, media, law and other departments with the knowledge, skills and equipment to understand and manage the increasingly complex legal, ethical, technological and economic- political dimensions of media management. Department of Comparative Literature Thesis Master’s Program in Comparative Literature Our aim is to get to familiarize ourselves more with Turkish literature and to examine the relation between Turkish Literature and world literature and their cultures. Department of Plastic Arts Thesis/Non-thesis Master’s Program in Plastic Arts In accordance with the interdisciplinary characteristics of contemporary art, the program aims to create artists who combine different art fields under one department and have the knowledge and skill to use different disciplines in art production. It prepares an environment for students to conceptualize their own theoretical and practical matters of different disciplines and to interpret them with their own unique approaches to produce concepts and works. The department’s view is that artistic creativity, intellectual development, the development of individual skills, and the formation of a self-discipline in the direction of work is based on arts education. The curriculum aims to develop self-discipline through intensive practice studies while at the same time students will question artistic values with their intellectual development, encourage creativity and provide an environment of freedom that will increase excitement.
