Each MOU paves the way for negotiations on specific collaborations to take place at the college and department levels. Georgia State’s Applied Linguistics department has had a solid program-specific agreement with Bogazici since 1998, focusing on graduate student exchange.In addition to visiting universities, Associate Provost Jun Liu and Profs. Volkan Topalli and Erdal Tekin visited two of Istanbul’s elite high schools, Uskudar Academy and American Collegiate Institute, where they signed letters of intent. Georgia State will work with the high schools to recruit their top students.This strategic trip served to further advance toward Georgia State’s goals to increase study abroad participation, faculty exchanges, international recruitment, and collaborative research. In the coming months, deans and chairs will begin to establish specific initiatives. March 2015 Dr. Julian Juergensmeyer (College of Law) lectured at Bahcesehir University, Istanbul. His connection is Prof. Dr. Feridun Yenisey, Professor of criminal law and criminal procedure and former Dean at Bahçeşehir University School of Law in Istanbul. Dr. Juergensmeyer also visited Izmir and met with: (Mr) Ertan Koyuncu, Head of International Department, Izmir University of Economics, Izmir Prof Dr. (Mr) Veli Ozbek, Dean, College of Law, Dokuz Eylul University, Izmir Assistant Prof. (Mr) Koray Aydin, College of Law, Dokuz Eylul University, Izmir Assistant Prof. (Ms) Pinar Bacaksiz, College of Law, Dokuz Eylul University, Izmir and in charge of International Programs. March 16 – 22, 2015 Dr. Ryan Rowberry (College of Law) led a study abroad program to Turkey and they worked with Bahcesehir University, Istanbul. (Graduate Program) “International Perspectives on Urban Law & Policy: Turkey”. The program focused on land-use planning, historic preservation, environmental law and policy, grown management, and disaster planning in Istanbul. Sponsored by the Georgia State University College of Law, Center for the Comparative Study of Metropolitan Growth and Bahcesehir University School of Law. April 2016 - 3rd. International Conference on New Trends in Education Ege University, Georgia State University, and Bahcesehir University organized the "New Trends in Education" Conference in April in Izmir, Turkey. The Third International Conference on New Trends in Education with a theme new learning environments & technologies aims to provide a platform for educators, researchers, leaders and visionaries from schools, universities, businesses, industries and other private and public agencies to share and discuss their innovative experiences, practices, and research initiatives and outcomes in new learning environments & technologies. With the help of this conference, the practical aspects of theoretical perspectives and the right connections of new learning environments & technologies with every aspect of modern society will be discussed and eventually lead to invaluable contributions to the field.
