(RTi) based in Fort Collins, Colorado, USA, along with Bangladesh-based partners Center for Environment and Geographic Information Services (CEGIS) and the Bangladesh Disaster Preparedness Centre (BDPC). RTi managed the project and provided specific technical inputs and oversight. Dr. Timothy Martin was the overall project manager with specialized technical inputs provided by: Dr. Claudio Schneider, remote sensing expert; Dr. Amnon Nevo, GIS developer; James VanShaar, water resource engineer; Gabriel Miller, water resources engineer; and, Dr. Paul Thompson, flood management specialist. The CEGIS team worked on all aspects of the project specifically in developing and operating the flood information system. Mr. Giasuddin Ahmed Choudhury, CEGIS Executive Director, supported all aspects of the project. Ahmadul Hassan served as the senior project manager and lead for the CEGIS project team including M.M. Awlad Hossain, GIS Modeler/Hydrologist; Mohammad Ragib Ahsan, Programmer; Syed Ahsanul Haque, Hydrologist. Other specialists contributing to the project from CEGIS include Monzur Hossain, Jr. Engineer; Syed Sohel Ali, Jr. Engineer; S.M. Shafi-Ul- Alam, GIS Analyst; Aminur Rahman Shah, Environmental Specialist; Qazi Imroj Jahan, Programmer; Anushila Mazumder, Jr. Environment Specialist; Bhuiyan Md. Tamim Al Hossain, Jr. Engineer; and, Sayeefur Rahman Rizvi, Graphics Specialist. BDPC disseminated flood information and warnings to affected communities, and provided training on interpreting and using the flood information to prepare for and mitigate impacts of flooding. The CFIS project director from BDPC was Muhammad Saidur Rahman and the project specialists included Moloy Chaki, M. Kamran Jacob, Nasir Uddin Ahmad, Md. Abdus Samad, and Suman Kanti Das. In addition to BDPC, CEGIS, and RTi, the contributions of many other organizations and individuals in Bangladesh are recognized and appreciated, including the Flood Forecasting and Warning Center (FFWC) for providing hydrological data and river forecasts. The Upazila Nirbahi Officers (UNO), Union Parishads, Upazila Disaster Management Committees (UzDMC), Union Disaster Management Committees (UDMC), Village Flood Management Committees (VFMC), and other members of local government organizations in the study area provided field assistance. Discussions and inputs from villagers and local government officials were most valuable and highly appreciated. Almost all the workplaces were shut about for 66 days from 26 March 2020. As a result, the number of workplace deaths is little bit low than previous year 2019, but not that much low as it is supposed to be. Every year Safety and Rights Society (SRS) is monitoring newspaper for collecting and preserving information on workplace accidents and the number of victims of those accidents and publish a report after conducting the yearly survey – this year report is the tenth in the series. SRS depends not only the newspapers as the source for information but it also accumulated some information from online media and through personal contact with workers representative organizations. This year 26 newspapers (15 national and 11 regional) were monitored and the present report includes information on workplace deaths (as well as injuries that took place in the same incident that resulted in the deaths) throughout 2020.

This article is an open access publication Abstract Pesticides used to protect the crops from pest attack in the agricultural felds pose harmful efect to the non-target organisms such as human and many other aquatic and terrestrial organisms either directly or indirectly through food chain. The present study was conducted to monitor a total of seven pesticide residues under organochlorine, organophosphorus and carbamate pesticides in three diferent sources of pond water, paddy feld water and tube-well water from Nagarpur Upazila and paddy feld water in the company of Dhaleshwari and Gazikhali river water from Saturia Upazila, Bangladesh. A total of 40 water samples were analyzed using high-performance liquid chromatography equipped with ultraviolet detector. Among the organo- phosphorus pesticides, diazinon was detected in eight water samples at a concentration ranging from 4.11 to 257.91 μg/l whereas, malathion was detected only in one water sample at a concentration of 84.64 μg/l and chlorpyrifos pesticide was also detected only in one water sample and the concentration was 37.3 μg/l. Trace amount of carbaryl was identifed but it was below the detection limit. None of the tested water samples was found to be contaminated with DDT or its metabolites (DDE and DDD).

    Bangladesh Rice J. 21 (2) : 123-141, 2017 Cropping Pattern, Intensity and Diversity in Dhaka Region N Parvin1*, A Khatun1, M K Quais1 and M Nasim1 ABSTRACT Sustainable crop production in Bangladesh through improvement of cropping intensity and crop diversity in rice based cropping system is regarded as increasingly important in national issues. Planning of agricultural development largely depends on the authentic, reliable and comprehensive statistics of the existing cropping patterns, cropping intensity and crop diversity of a particular area, which will provide guideline to our policy makers, researchers, extensionists and development workers. The study was conducted over all 46 upazilas of Dhaka agricultural region in 2015 using pretested semi-structured questionnaire with a view to document the existing cropping patterns, cropping intensity and crop diversity in the region. From the present study, it was observed that about 48.27% net cropped area (NCA) is covered by exclusive rice cropping systems whereas deep water rice occupied about 16.57% of the regional NCA. The most dominant cropping pattern Boro−Fallow−T. Aman alone occupied about 22.59% of net cropped area (NCA) with its distribution over 32 upazilas out of 46. The second largest area was covered by single Boro cropping pattern, which was spread over 44 upazilas. Total number of cropping patterns was observed 164. The highest number of cropping pattern was identified 35 in Tangail sadar and Dhamrai upazila of Dhaka district and the lowest was seven in Bandar of Narayanganj and Palash of Narsingdi district. The lowest crop diversity index (CDI) was reported as 0.70 in Dhamrai followed by 0.72 in Monohardi of Narsingdi.

    The Chief Engineer Local Government Engineering Department PREFACE It is a matter of satisfaction that LGED Road Database has been published through compilation of data that represent all relevant information of rural road network of the country in a structured manner. The Rural Infrastructure Maintenance Management Unit of LGED (former Rural Infrastructure Maintenance Cell) took up the initiative to create a road inventory database in mid nineties to register all of its road assets country-wide with the help of customized software called, Road and Structure Database Management System. The said database was designed to accommodate all relevant information on the road network sequentially and the system was upgraded from time to time to cater the growing needs. In general, the purpose of this database is to use it in planning and management of LGED's rural road network by providing detailed information on roads and structures. In particular, from maintenance point of view this helps to draw up comprehensive maintenance program including rational allocation of fund based on various parameters and physical condition of the road network. According to recent road re-classification, LGED is responsible for construction, development and maintenance of three classes of roads, which has been named as Upazila Road, Union Road and Village Road (category A & B) in association with Local Government Institution. The basic information about these roads like, road name, road type, length, surface type, condition, structure number with span, existing gaps with length, etc. has been made available in the road inventory. Side by side, corresponding spatial data are also provided in the road map comprising this document.
