In order to travel with the SL services you will need a ticket. There are tickets and travel cards for short and longer periods of time. Nearly all tickets are loaded on an SL Access card, which is an electronic smart card. You need to pay a fee of 20 SEK (2 €) for the card itself, but you can re-use your card during future visits to Stockholm. SL also sells single use travel cards, with tickets valid for 75 minutes (43 SEK; 4,3 €)), 24 hours or 72 hours. If you are just visiting once the single use travel cards are perfect for you. It is always cheaper to buy these prepaid tickets (instead of tickets per train ride) and the longer the period of validity of the ticket, the cheaper it will be. 3 Tickets and travel cards are sold the SL agents, at the SL Center and at Metro and commuter railway stations. There are also ticket machines at most Metro and commuter railway stations, as well as in a number of other locations. You can also buy a single ticket via the smart phone app (you will have to register for this service). 4 .
