Exchange Student Program Guid Hongik University 2021 EXCHANGE AND VISITING STUDENT PROGRAM GUIDE HONGIK UNIVERSITY ■ EXCHANGE STUDENT PROGRAM Requirement and exchange period Students from sister universities are able to be admitted to Hongik as exchange students. The exchange period is generally one semester. (Student can extend maximum 3 more semesters. 4 semester available in total) Applications and documents needed 1. Completed application form for exchange students 2. Cover letter (self-introduction and study plan) 3. Recommendation letter (from a faculty of the school presently attending) 4. Certified transcript 5. Portfolio (Fine Arts/Design/Architecture majors only, printable PDF format) 6. Copy of passport (the first two pages with personal information) ▶ Email : [email protected] The deadline of the application 1. The end of May (applicants for the Fall semester) 2. The end of November of the previous year (applicants for the Spring semester) *Semester Calendar Spring Semester: from beginning of March to mid-June Fall semester: from beginning of September to mid-December The tuition fee and to register for classes Accepted exchange students are exempted from paying tuition to Hongik University and are allowed to register for courses (up to 18 credit units per semester; contingent upon receiving instructors' permission). Accommodation 1. Dormitory on campus(exclusive of meals) Dorm: 1 room for 2 persons, bathroom in room: approx. KRW 1,400,000 / 16 weeks 2. Off Campus housing Student is responsible for obtaining off-campus housing on his/her own. Applicable department All colleges/departments in Hongik are available for exchange students from our sister institutes. However, we are afraid that only around 10% of the total classes at Hongik are in English. In case of Art department, workshop takes major part of each course so language might not be a big problem. He has taught in three different countries across a varied range of abilities and language skills. So-Yeon Ahn So-Yeon Ahn currently lectures at the Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, where she conducts several research studies having to do with culture in language learning and language teacher identity. The final choice was between Hong Kong, Japan and South Korea. Hong Kong did not offer any Master level exchange and Japan being very expensive I decided to with South Korea. I had also met many Koreans during my earlier travels, who had been really nice and fun people, which also mattered in the choice. All of the three universities that Aalto has an exchange deal with are located in the capital, Seoul. All three SKY-universities (Seoul National University, Korea University and Yonsei University) are top universities in Korea, and people are proud to be alumni or current students of each one of them. The choice between these three universities was in the end fairly easy. I heard from several sources that Yonsei University has a really vibe and there is a lot going on around the university. This was a very important factor in my decision, since I knew that all three universities are very respected in academics. I also saw the exchange semester of 50% of studying and 50% getting to know the country, culture and meeting new people. After being selected to Yonsei University in the internal selection of Aalto I had to still do an online application on Yonsei University’s web site. This required some basic information such as name, home university, major etc.

    International Journal of Korean History(Vol.11, Dec. 2007) 227 G G G The Establishment and Activities of the Korean-American Association During the Era of the American Military Government HEO Eun* Introduction The era of the U.S. Army Military Government in Korea (hereafter USAMGIK) can be perceived as a period in which the Korean society located south of the 38th parallel reencountered the United States after having removed the fetters of Japanese colonial rule. The South Korean public’s perception of the United States underwent rapid changes during the three years in which the American Military Government occupied Korea, which resulted in many contradictory assessments of the United States emerging. Put differently, this was a period in which contradictory and conflicting evaluations of America existed alongside one another. To this end, the U.S. was regarded as both a ‘liberation’ and ‘occupation’ force; as a ‘democratic’ and ‘imperialist’ state; and as an ‘advanced civilized’ and ‘mammonist’ country. These contradictory opinions were directly related to political groups and the Korean public’s perception of reality.
