CLOWN/HELPING HANDS MINISTRY

Isn’t it great to see what happens when everyone works together, and we place our trust in ? We build community, are so productive, and accomplish more than we could imagine! I am a member of the Lions Club. We all come from different backgrounds, but we all work together to help others. In our own parish, we also work together in many ways. For example, every parishioner is a part of our Helping Hands ministry. Without you, we could not care for God’s less fortunate. Thank you to all who offer financial donations to the Helping Hands ministry. We appreciate the clothing, food and toiletry donations that help so many. At this time of year, we are also so grateful to those who share gifts from your gardens. Of course, we are always thankful for the donation of baked goods. As Catholics, we have been called to serve the poor. Francis said, “In the poor and outcast, we see Christ’s face; by loving and helping the poor, we love and serve Christ.” GOD IS GOOD ALL THE TIME. ALL THE TIME GOD IS GOOD.

A (GREEN) KNIGHT TO REMEMBER

Our very first “A (Green) Knight to Remember Gala will be held on November 2 at La-Vera Party Center. We are excited to honor two of our parishioners for their years of volunteering: Andy Futey and Gina Pilla. The evening will include a sit-down dinner, open bar, music, raffles, and auctions. If you can help us by donating an item, please call Chris: 440-991- 6615, or the parish office: 440-442-3410 - Kelly ext. 112 or Kathy ext. 109. Thank you!

THOUGHTS FROM THE SOCIAL ACTION COMMISSION

Protection of families is a foundational element of Catholic Social Teaching. The US Conference of Catholic Bishops strongly opposes policies which lead to children being separated from their parents at the border and is committed to working to ensure their safe reunification. The Saint Paschal Baylon Social Action Commission meets the 2 nd Wednesday of every month at 7:00 p.m. in the Kazel Room in the rectory. All are welcome. If you would like to receive our emails, please email [email protected] . Our next meeting is Wednesday, September 12 th .

SYMBOLON THE CATHOLIC FAITH EXPLAINED

THE HOLY SPIRIT AND THE LIFE OF GRACE: GOD’S DIVINE LIFE WITHIN US We all have mental images of Jesus and God the Father, but what about the Holy Spirit? Maybe you picture a dove, or tongues of fire or rushing wind. But however, you imagine the Spirit; he’s probably more mysterious than the other two persons of the Holy Trinity. Little wonder that even life-long Christians can sometimes have trouble relating and praying to the Holy Spirit. Come to the September session of Symbolon to take a closer look at who the Holy Spirit is, how the Spirit operates in our lives and in the life of the Church, and why it is absolutely essential that we come to know and love the Spirit if we are to come into full relationship with the Trinity. You may attend either session: at St Paschal on September 10 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the Eymard Room or at St Clare on September 13 from 12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the Harvest Room. There is no registration fee, so please just come and become part of this new and exciting adult faith formation program. If you have any questions or would like further information, call Rosalie Lewis at 440-227-8718 or Barb Curran at 440-840-5511.

WELCOME TO OUR NEW PARISHIONERS

Mr. and Mrs. Bruno Ndukwu, Ms. Gina Milite, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Oley, Ms. Susan Albro, Mr. and Mrs. Michael Granito, Mr. and Mrs. Bryan McDonnell

FROM FATHER LANE, SSS, OUR 8 TH PASTOR:

232323 rdrdrd Sunday in Ordinary Time: Few of the words that Jesus actually said have been preserved from generation to the next. This Sunday’s Gospel has one: “Ephphatha” – Aramaic for “Be opened.” Another way of saying it in English, Scripture scholars have suggested, is, “Let yourself be opened.” Whatever the meaning, the sentiment is the same – open your ears to hear so that your impediment may be removed!

We have another chance to look into our lives and live the baptismal rite, to “be open.” Remember at our baptism when the baptizer made the sign of the cross over our ears and mouth? This is the “Ephphatha Rite,” the rite which calls us to hear well and speak well. I think we all could use a reminder of this ritual from time to time and it’s fortunate that our Sunday Scriptures remind us and invite us to deeper hearing and speaking for the Gospel living we do. As they said about Christ, “[Jesus] has done all things well,” let them say about us, as others see the listening gift and the speaking gift grow within us. This is our Christian discipleship and faithfulness to our baptismal call!

Census: Last weekend we celebrated our 65 th anniversary as a parish. What better way of starting our 66 th year together by completing a census? Why do we need a census? I can hear some of our parishioners wondering and asking, “Do I really have to fill out the information?” We have had so many suggestions over the years about improving our data. We are taking those steps to do so now on this Stewardship Weekend. I thank you in advance for helping us have email info, a birthday (not the year), your interests and hobbies and your commitment to serve in a ministry of the parish and, for those who didn’t get the chance in May, to make a commitment to increase your tithing (if able) to advance the mission of the parish. From time to time folks ask for some assistance and they say, “Don’t you know a parishioner who does…?” We hope to assist those in need and I believe you would agree that this would be very supportive and building our community and the kingdom of God. THANK YOU for being so kind!

Prayers for Tuesday’s Leadership Day: Our theme Tuesday night, September 11th from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. is to celebrate what’s been going well in our parish, and reflect upon what we have achieved during the last four years of the Pastoral Plan. A wonderful committee of almost 35 parishioners came together to assemble dreams, goals and strategies. We have been faithful to fulfilling the plan and improving our parish’s life. Let’s look at these accomplishments – from our parish’s leaders’ perspective. I invite you to email me the joys and love of your parish by sending me a note writing the accomplishments down and I will share them with our group this Tuesday night. Thanks for your prayers. Parish leaders: please do not forget to place your reservation for the meal, beginning promptly at 6:00 p.m.

Looking to October and November: We have many things happenings and events in our parish this month, but I would like to remind you of some other great things coming up in the next few months, that we need to plan for nownownow : • October 7 – Respect Life Sunday – Rosary for Life on Wilson Mills Road, 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. • October 7 – Blessing of Pets – Around the flagpole and our new sign on Wilson Mills, 1:30 p.m. • October 14 – Blessing of New Parishioners and Brunch, 10:00 a.m. Mass • October 21 – 26 – USA SSS Chapter – a meeting to elect new leadership and plan the future of the American province of our

Blessed Sacrament Community. Your prayers for a successful meeting are appreciated. o We will have visiting subbing for the SSS: Sunday, October 21 Fr Joe Gosselin (mission weekend – for World Mission Sunday) at the regular Mass times Monday, October 22 – Fr. Joe Gosselin, 9:00 a.m. Mass only Tuesday, October 23 – Fr. Leonard Cencula, 9:00 a.m. Mass only Wednesday, October 24 – still working on finding a ☺ Thursday, October 25 - Fr. Leonard Cencula, 9:00 a.m. Mass only Friday, October 26 - Fr. Leonard Cencula, 9:00 a.m. Mass only We will be back to usual on October 27 with the weekend Masses having another special appeal, requested by the diocese, for the missions o Pray for vocations now, so that in the future it will be a little easier to find a priest. This is sadly a new norm across the church – with it being extremely difficult to find Presbyteral assistance. • October 28 – Trunk or Treat, 3:00 p.m. See Evamarie (Youth Minister) for planning assistance • Friday, November 2 – A Night to Remember, 6:30 p.m. at La-Vera Party Center: please sell your Anniversary Raffle Tickets (and notice the great deal you will have) and provide auction items.

Let’s continue to pray for each other and the joy of serving in our parish’s life! In Christ our ,

Reverend John Thomas Lane, SSS, Class of 1979 (40 th Reunion Saturday, May 18)

STEWARDSHIP

We are a stewardship parish: we recognize that as God’s stewards, we cannot help but give thanks to God for our many blessings and gifts. We demonstrate this by sharing our time, talent and treasure to build up God’s reign. We do this because there are a lot of joys and blessings, expenses and duties for living and running a parish family.

Some of the bills we paid this week: • Postage for census (mailed to your homes) $524.53 • Extra large hosts/low-gluten hosts $100.75 • Altar wine $289.75 • Parish picnic pavilion rental $100.00

ENDOWMENT FUND

We appreciate the many who continue to invest in our award-winning school, insuring a strong endowment fund for the future of the school. Each year, whether we have a profit or not, we use $60,000 of the funds to support the operating costs of the school. We are grateful to the following that have showed their support this year: M. Jane Toth

Study books can be purchased for $12.99 at Lifeway Christian Bookstore in Mentor or online at www.lifeway.com/1 PeterStudy or thru other websites. Peter was a man of faith and flaws! He was also an eyewitness to the life of Christ. The book of 1 Peter challenges us to look beyond our current circumstances to a future inheritance. He shares concerns about big picture issues for the early believers while reminding them of the living hope they have in Christ. Peter describes our true identity as believers and points us to humility and submission. Discussion leader will be Lee Costanzo.
