In the south, the governorate is made up of a vast desert plain, intersected by the Shatt Al-Arab waterway which is formed by the confluence of the Tigris and Euphrates rivers at Al-Qurnah and empties into the Persian Gulf. Around Al-Qurnah and Al-Medina a number of lakes can be found, while marshland stretches from the north of the governorate into the neighboring governorates of Thi-Qar and Missan. The governorate is Iraq’s only access to the sea. Similar to the surrounding region, the governorate of Basrah has a hot and arid climate. The temperatures in summer are among the highest recorded in the world. Due to the vicinity of the Persian Gulf, humidity and rainfall are however relatively high. The governorate receives an average amount of 152mm of rainfall a year between the months of October and May. Population and Administrative Division The governorate of Basrah is subdivided into seven districts: Abu Al-Khaseeb, Al-Midaina, Al-Qurna, Al- Zubair, Basrah, Fao, and Shatt Al-Arab. The city of Basrah, the governorate’s capital, is Iraq’s third largest urban center. -

Country Policy and Information Note Iraq: Security and humanitarian situation Version 6.0 May 2020 Preface Purpose This note provides country of origin information (COI) and analysis of COI for use by Home Office decision makers handling particular types of protection and human rights claims (as set out in the Introduction section). It is not intended to be an exhaustive survey of a particular subject or theme. It is split into two main sections: (1) analysis and assessment of COI and other evidence; and (2) COI. These are explained in more detail below. Assessment This section analyses the evidence relevant to this note – i.e. the COI section; refugee/human rights laws and policies; and applicable caselaw – by describing this and its inter-relationships, and provides an assessment of, in general, whether one or more of the following applies: x A person is reasonably likely to face a real risk of persecution or serious harm x The general humanitarian situation is so severe as to breach Article 15(b) of European Council Directive 2004/83/EC (the Qualification Directive) / Article 3 of the European Convention on Human Rights as transposed in paragraph 339C and 339CA(iii) of the Immigration Rules x The security situation presents a real risk to a civilian’s life or person such that it would breach Article 15(c) of the Qualification Directive as transposed in paragraph 339C and 339CA(iv) of the Immigration Rules x A person is able to obtain protection from the state (or quasi state bodies) x A person is reasonably able to relocate within a country or territory x A claim is likely to justify granting asylum, humanitarian protection or other form of leave, and x If a claim is refused, it is likely or unlikely to be certifiable as ‘clearly unfounded’ under section 94 of the Nationality, Immigration and Asylum Act 2002. -
CBD Fifth National Report
FOREWORD BY THE MINISTER OF ENVIRONMENT OF IRAQ As a commitment to meet its obligations to the Convention on Biological Diversity, Iraq has issued the - First for Iraq - (namely the Fourth) Iraqi National Report on Biodiversity back in 2010. Since then, attention was directed towards a presumably more updated, informative and timely publication of the upcoming Fifth National Report on Biodiversity. For this, the Ministry of Environment was geared up and determined to abide by the timeline set by the CBD secretariat and has mobilized all resources needed for the assignment. Nevertheless, the task wasn't easy at all and encountered several practical obstacles, and it was a race against time for collecting vast and wide array of updates of information, new scientific data, additions and records. The composition of the task team was a recipe for success. Its efficient, well organized and professional work was evident ever since it's set up in 2012. During the entire period of its preparation, the progress of the Fifth National Report was monitored by resilient timetable that coped with unforeseen difficulties; utilize scattered data to make sound conclusions, and the whereabouts of missing pieces of information. A consolidated report such as the Fifth National Report on Biodiversity in Iraq demanded not only excellent planning and fair assuming of roles by the team, but also the effective and efficient participatory contribution of tangible spectrum of the society. To achieve desired goals, rehabilitation of the legislative, institutional and financial environment was also equally needed. During the past decade, the Ministry of Environment vigorously motivated the issuance of numerous decisions, directives, and laws that all served promotion of environmental issues in Iraq. -
Four Districts in Iraq Nominated to Implement the Basic Package Of
Four districts in Iraq nominated to implement the Basic Package of Health Services for Iraq through Integrated District Health System based on Family Practice Approach 21 April 2011 –Beirut – Implementation of Basic Health Service Package (BHSP) through Improving the performance of District Health System based on Family Practice Approach (IDHS-FPA), is a new World Health Organization Eastern Mediterranean Region initiative adopted by the Ministry of Health in Iraq which will be introduced as a pilot in four districts in the country including Baghdad, Kirkuk, Missan and Erbil governorates. The initiatives aims at assuring universal, equitable and efficient access to essential health services for every individual especialy the most vulnerable (childern, women and elderly residing in the catchment area population of a Primary Health Care Facility.
