Men nej.

  • Edited by Stig Hjarvard and Mia Lövheim NORDIC PERSPECTIVES
RELIGION AND MEDIATIZATION Nordic Perspectives Nordic Perspectives This book presents new research on the changing relationship between the media, religion and culture from a Nordic perspective, while engaging with the theory of the mediatization of religion. In contemporary society, news journalism, film and television series, as well as new digital media, provide critical commentary on religion while also enabling new forms of religious imagery and interaction. Religious leaders, communities and individuals reflexively negotiate their presence within this new mediatized reality. In an increasingly globalized Nordic context, the media have also come to play an important role in the performance of both individual and social identities, and in the representation and development of social and religious conflicts. Through empirical analysis and theoretical discussions, scholars from film and media studies, the sociology of religion, and theology contribute to the NORDIC PERSPECTIVES development of the theory of the mediatization of religion as well as to the broader research field of media, religion and culture. • Investigating Nordic Noir
Investigating Nordic Noir By Sofia Alexi A thesis submitted to the Victoria University of Wellington in fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Arts Victoria University of Wellington 2017 3 Abstract Alexi Sofia, Film Studies, Victoria University of Wellington Abstract of Master’s Thesis, Submitted 10 April 2017: “Investigating Nordic noir” Scandinavian crime films and television series have become popular in recent years. This thesis explores some of the key texts in ‘Nordic noir’ through a discussion of detectives, the environment, and visual style. The emphasis in the project is on textual analysis. The first chapter examines the figures of Wallander and Lund in Wallander and Forbrydelsen respectively. I argue that the conflicts Nordic detectives often have between work and the domestic sphere are an indication of how gender stereotypes are challenged in the Scandinavian crime genre. The second chapter considers the role of the natural and built environments in Nordic noir. Features such as forests and water play a crucial role in Forbrydelsen because of the ways in which they create uncertainty, anticipation, and suspense. The urban spaces of Bron/Broen develop a sense of anonymity that recalls the function of the city in classic film noir. Rather than developing links between Sweden and Denmark, the series suggests that the Øresund bridge that spans the two countries is ultimately a disconnecting, centrifugal force that functions as what Marc Augé would call a ‘non-place’. The final chapter considers the role of colour and light in the films Insomnia and Jar City. My analysis demonstrates that Nordic noir encompasses more than naturalism and realism.

Download date: 28. Sep. 2021 Three Forms of Mediatized Religion Changing the Public Face of Religion Stig Hjarvard At the height of the Mohammed cartoon conflict in 2006, Danish Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen stated that religion should be a private matter and not play a major role in the public sphere1. He was immediately countered by a number of religious representatives who – not surprisingly – argued that reli- gion had a natural place in the public realm. The Mohammed cartoon conflict was not only a prominent example of a growing presence of religion in the public sphere, but also an indicator of the changing nature of the public face of religion and the difficulty of controlling public representations of religion. The controversies regarding the Mohammed cartoons of course did involve a traditional Islamic concern about whether or not to depict Mohammed in pic- tures, but the representation of Islam and the conflict itself were not primarily controlled by religious actors; rather, they were instigated and structured by a series of media dynamics, including the initial journalistic initiative to publish the cartoons, the news media’s framing of Islam, public diplomacy through transnational satellite television, and popular mobilization through various mo- bile and digital media (Eide et al.

  • Karin Slaughter: One of the Many Things You're Great at Is Writing
Karin Slaughter: One of the many things you’re great at is writing believable characters. I know you’re like me in that you oftentimes see your characters as real people. If you could go for drinks with one of the characters from Blue Blood (other than Louise), who would it be? Sara Blaedel: I would definitely go for a drink with Eik Nordström (Eik is Louise Rick’s new partner at the Special Search Agency within the Search Department at The Copenhagen Police Force. We meet him for the first time in The Forgotten Girls, Louise Rick no. 7), but I’m not sure I could keep up with him. And maybe it would be wise not to try to, because somebody has to take him home, otherwise he’ll just crash at the place we’re at. We would meet at Eik’s favourite bar, which is a place where they don’t ask any questions, and where they will leave you alone if you want to be left alone. I would love to have a few drinks with Eik. I don’t think we would talk that much, and I don’t think it would be entertaining, but I guess I would like to show him that he can count on me and that I’ll be there for him as a friend, if he needs me. Karin: You’re obviously a fan of crime writing, but how about crime series on TV? The Killing was such a hit in the US and UK that fans want to know what other Danish series (like The Bridge) they should be keeping up with.
