annual report 2015–2016 CATHOLIC CHARITIES BUREAU, INC. | DIOCESE OF ST. AUGUSTINE the mission of Catholic Charities is to provide services to anyone in need, regardless of race or ; to advocate justice, human dignity and quality of life; and to call all people to join in these efforts— thereby reflecting the compassion of God in Christ.

MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT AND DIOCESAN DIRECTOR

"mercy the disposition to be kind and forgiving. Founded on compassion, putting this feeling into practice with a readiness to assist, is therefore the ready willingness: to help anyone in need.” As we conclude the Year of Mercy, we believe Catholic Charities has answered Pope Francis’ call and desire during this past year to be attentive to the needs of the poor, the suffering, and the lonely.

The Corporal Works of Mercy are actions we perform to extend God’s compassion and mercy to those in need: feeding the hungry, sheltering the homeless, clothing the naked, and imprisoned, burying the dead, and giving alms to the poor. These Corporal Works of Mercy are the of Catholic Charities. The following pages of our 2015–2016 Annual Report give witness to the acts of mercy practiced on a daily basis in our agency. As we reflect upon the services provided, whether it be to a newly arrived refugee to our country, a young woman choosing to place her child with an adoptive family, a camper at Camp I Am Special, or a young family struggling to meet their basic needs, the dignity of each person is our top priority.

Today, the Catholic Charities network has four regional offices, located in Gainesville, Jacksonville, Lake City, and St. Augustine. Although the services may vary from site to site, the goal of our programs in each office and satellite location is to respond to the unique needs of the communities we serve. It is our Catholic identity and Catholic Social Teaching that call upon us to see in the face of the poor.

As Pope Francis tells us that “even the weakest and most vulnerable, the sick, the old, the unborn, and the poor, are masterpieces of God’s creation, made in his own image, destined to live forever, and deserving of the utmost reverence and respect.” This is what grounds our daily work: works of mercy that could not be possible without the commitment of many individuals. We are blessed with dedicated staff, generous donors, engaged volunteers, and supportive community partners. We could not provide the services of our agency without the investment of so many.

Thank you for being partners with us as we strive daily to put compassion into action. May God bless you and those you love. In for all, annual report 2015–2016 annual report CHARITIES BUREAU, INC.
