Hoja Divulgativa Guía Ilustrativa De 46 Variedades De Mango Illustrative Guide to 46 Mango Varieties Hoja divulgativa Guía ilustrativa de 46 variedades de mango Illustrative guide to 46 mango varieties José Eladio Monge Pérez Universidad de Costa Rica El mango, Mangifera indica L., es una planta de la familia Anacardiaceae, originaria del sudeste de la India y sus islas circunvecinas. Es una especie que se caracteriza por la producción de frutos de excelente calidad, constituyéndose como una de las especies de frutas de clima tropical más importantes; los frutos se destacan por su particular sabor y aroma. Algunos mercados prefieren los frutos de mango de colores vivos o brillantes de la cáscara (amarillo y/o rojo), con una cobertura total de la superficie del fruto, pero otros mercados prefieren frutos que pasan de coloración verde a amarilla cuando están maduros. A continuación, se presentan las fotografías de varias de las variedades de mango evaluadas en la Estación Experimental Agrícola Fabio Baudrit Moreno (EEAFBM), de la Universidad de Costa Rica. Meetings: Regular membership meetings that include an educational program are held the second Tuesday of each month, except July and August. Meetings begin promptly at 7 PM, at the First United Methodist Church, 27690 Shriver Avenue, Bonita Springs. The meetings are held in the "Fellowship Hall" meeting room. Workshops: Workshops (monthly discussions) are held on the fourth Tuesday of each month at 7 PM at the Method- ist Church, when practical. This open format encourages discussion and sharing of fruits and informa- tion. Bring in your fruits, plants, seeds, leaves, insects, photos, recipes, ect.. This is a great chance to get answers to specific questions, and there always seems to be a local expert on hand! Tree sale: Semi-annual tree sales in February and November at Riverside Park in downtown Bonita Springs raise revenue for educational programs for club members and other related purposes of the club. Accessions have also been classifi ed by horticultural type: cultivars that produce monoembryonic seed vs. cultivars that produce polyembryonic seed. In this study we used 25 microsatellite loci to estimate genetic diversity among 203 unique mangos (M. indica), two M. griffi thii Hook. f., and three M. odorata Griff. accessions maintained at the National Germplasm Repository and by Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden in Miami, Fla. The 25 microsatellite loci had an average of 6.96 alleles per locus and an average polymorphism information content (PIC) value of 0.552 for the M. indica population. The total propagation error in the collection (i.e., plants that had been incorrectly labeled or grafted) was estimated to be 6.13%. When compared by origin, the Florida cultivars were more closely related to Indian than to Southeast Asian cultivars.
