Italian Wine Gift Boxes 2019 Buying Guide Corporate Gifts, Employee Gifts, Friends & Family WE CAN SHIP DIRECT TO RECIPIENTS!! 1. The Killer B’s: Barolo, Barbaresco, and Brunello - $165 They represent the most collected pure-varietal wines of Italy, competing with the Grand Crus of Burgundy as well as the cult favorites of California. These are Italy’s greatest red wines, capable of aging over decades, attracting loads of attention, and providing aromas not found elsewhere in the World. They are among the most collectible wines of not just Italy but of the World! This tasting is designed to provide individual wines (i.e. a Barolo, a Barbaresco and a Brunello) that exemplify their respective categories so that you can educate yourself on the key characteristics of each. 3pk “Collector Kit” (1 bottle each of) 2014 Clerico, Barolo 2016 Piero Busso, Barbaresco 2014 San Filippo, Brunello di Montalcino 2. Introduction to “The Super-Tuscans” - $90 No other Category of Italian Wine has had such an impact as that of the Super-Tuscan. It is single handedly responsi- ble for the “Renaissance” of Italian Wine. Specifically, the term arose as more and more Chianti producers opted out of their historical designation (“Chianti Classico”) in order to make a more modern/expressive wine. Many of them are of high quality and are normally expensive. They are typically Sangiovese (the main grape of Tuscany) with the addition of Cabernet Sauvignon, a French Import not allowed in the Chianti blend. However, a Super-Tuscan can be pretty much anything. It can take the form of a mono-varietal (e.g. Isole e Olena’s 100% Sangiovese “Cepparello” or Ornel- laia’s 100% Merlot “Massetto) or any blend of varietals (e.g. Antinori’s blends of Sangiovese and Cabernet “Tignanello” and Solaia). In the end, a Super-Tuscan is the true expression of a winemaker, not bound to any rigid tradition. This tasting is designed to give you a taste of some of the classic categories of Super-Tuscans; a 100% Sangiovese, a Sangio- vese/Merlot blend, and a Sangiovese/Cabernet blend. 3pk “Exploration Kit” (1 bottle each of) 2017 Tenuta Argentiera, Donoratico (60% Cabernet, 40% Merlot) 2017 Sette Ponti, Crognolo (90% Sangiovese, 10% Merlot) 2014 Certosa di Belriguardo, “Baccano”(80% Sangiovese, 20% Syrah) 3. Grapes of Piedmont $90 The three main red grapes of Piedmont fit (conveniently) together like pieces of puzzle. Barbera and Dolcetto make the more readily accessible, “fun” wines, the ones to drink while the more tannic Nebbiolo ages. Each of the three has characteristics that the other two lack, allowing for a variety of balanced and intriguing blends (under the “Langhe Rosso” denomination). In Dolcetto you get soft tannins and plump, grapey fruit. In barbera, you get bright acidity and a more sour, spicy red fruit character. And in nebbiolo, you get tar and leather and spices. Where Dolcetto and Barbera are ripe and ready, Nebbiolo is more about complexities revealed over time. 3pk “Explorer’s Kit”( 1 bottle each of) 2018 Domenico Clerico, Dolcetto d’Alba “Visadi” (100% Dolecetto) 2016 Roberto Voerzio, Barbera d’Alba “Il Cereto” (100% Barbera) 2018 Sottimano, Nebbiolo (100% Nebbiolo” 4. Island Wines Sicily and Sardinia $95 Italy’s Islands (Sicily and Sardinia) are the hottest new frontier in Italian winemaking. Until quite recently, there was really no history of quality winemaking on both, just small pockets of quality here and there. Not for reasons of terroir, but rather reasons of politics. But things have changed quickly, and dramatically. There has been a huge surge in private investment, due to the inherent potential of these ancient and mysterious Islands. Accordingly, there is unrivaled experimentation, winemakers not bound by tradition, but rather on innovation. 3pk “Collectors Kit” (1 bottle each of) 2016 Alberelli di Giodo, Etna Rosso (100% Nerello Mascalese) 2016 Argiolas, “Costera” (100% Cannonau 2017 Colosi, DOC Siclia (100% Nero d’Avola) 5. Italy’s Indigenous Grapes $110 Italy's regions offer a lot to learn with their 2,700 producers, over 1,000 grape varieties, and 325 appella- tions. Italy is the biggest wine producing and exporting country in the world, with a never ending supply of grape varietals at its disposal, and a history dating back to Ancient Rome. From Nebbiolo in the North, to Sangiovese in the Center, and Aglianico in the South, Italy’s diversity is unmatched. This kit will give you a quick tour of Italy’s most celebrated red wine varietals. 3pk “Exploration Kit” (1 bottle each of) 2017 Domenico Clerico, Langhe DOC “Capisme” (100% Nebbiolo) 2017 Il Carnasciale, IGT Toscana (100% Sangiovese) 2016 Quintodecimo, DOC Irpinia (100% Aglianico) 6. The Many Faces of Sangiovese $65 Without question Italy’s most famous wine zone, Toscana is the most revered source for quality Sangiovese in Italy. The grape is highly adaptable and over time planted in different areas has developed into different clones (Sangiovetto in Chianti, Prugnolo Gentile in Montepulciano, and Sangiovese Grosso in Montalcino). This tasting is designed to highlight the differences in the resulting wines stemming from the clones of San- giovese used to produce them. Inheritantly it is a study in terroir as all the wines are 100% Sangiovese, just harvested in different sub-zones of Tuscany. 3pk “Exploration Kit” (1 bottle each of) 2016 Certosa, Chianti Classico 2015 Del Cerro, Vino Nobile 2017 San Filippo, Rosso di Montalcino 7. The Greatest Super Tuscans $400/$840 No other Category of Italian Wine has had such an impact as that of the Super-Tuscan. It is single handedly responsible for the “Renaissance” of Italian Wine. Many of them are of high quality and are normally expen- sive. They are typically Sangiovese (the main grape of Tuscany) with the addition of Cabernet Sauvignon, a French Import not allowed in the Chianti blend. However, a Super-Tuscan can be pretty much anything. It can take the form of a mono-varietal (e.g. Fontodi’s historic 100% Sangiovese “Flacianello” or Ornellaia’s epic 100% Merlot “Massetto”) or any blend of varietals (e.g. Antinori’s blends of Sangiovese and Cabernet “Tignanello”). In the end, a Super Tuscan is the true expression of a winemaker, not bound to any rigid tra- dition. This is truly a unique (and highly collectible) set of wines designed to show you the range of possibili- ties in Super-Tuscans wines, through the eyes of some of Italy’s greatest wines. 3 Pack Collector Kit $400 6 Pack Collector Kit $840 2016 Isole e Olena, “Cepparello” 2017 Sette Ponti, “Oreno” 2016 Antinori, “Tignanello” 2016 Antinori, “Tignanello” 2015 Ornellaia, “Ornellaia” 2014 Antinori, “Solaia” 2015 Ornellaia, “Ornellaia” 2013 Biserno, “Biserno” 2013 Badia Coltibuono, “Sangiovetto” 8. Understanding Brunello $240-$440 Brunello (“the little dark one”) is a Tuscan dialect name for a particularly fine strain of Sangiovese grown in Montalcino, south of both Chianti and Siena. In this dryer, hotter, and more Mediterra- nean climate of southern Tuscany, the limestone and sand soil produce a muscular grape capable of making a rich, dark, concentrated red (heavier and more tannic than Chianti). Tongue-curling tan- nins and firm acidity allow these wines to age, catching the eyes of wine collectors, Popes, Presi- dents, Kings, and Queens. This tasting allows for the exploration of the distinct growing zones of Montalcino (The Southern, Northern, and Central). The altitudes of the zones yield unique differ- ences in the wines. The wines are all from the outstanding 2010 vintage (in order to hold this vari- able constant). 3pk “Collectors Kit” $240 2013 Camigliano, Brunello di Montalcino 2013 Silvio Nardi, Brunello di Montalcino 2013 Giodo, Brunello di Montalcino 6pk “Collectors Kit” $420 2013 Campogiovanni, Brunello di Montalcino 2013 Camigliano, Brunello di Montalcino 2014 Altesino, Brunello di Montalcino 2013 Giodo, Brunello di Montalcino 2013 Silvio Nardi, Brunello di Montalcino 2014 San Filippo, Brunello di Montalcino 9.
