Where there are fe1er app icants than the PAN, a chi dren 1i be admitted un ess they can be offered a higher ranked preference. In the e,ent that the Schoo is o,ersubscribed, the admission authority 1i app y the fo o1ing o,ersubscription criteria in order of priority: 1. Looked after children and all previo sly looked after children. A B ooked after chi dB is a chi d 1ho is 8a9 in the care of a oca authority, or 8b9 being pro,ided 1ith accommodation by a oca authority in the e:ercise of their socia ser,ices functions 8see the definition in Section 22819 of the .hi dren Act 1C8C9 at the time of making an app ication to a schoo . Pre,ious y ooked after chi dren are chi dren 1ho 1ere ooked after, but ceased to be so because they 1ere adopted 8or became subject to a chi d arrangements order or specia guardianship order9; 2. A child with exceptional medical or social gro nds. App icants 1i on y be considered under this heading if the parent/carer or their representati,e can demonstrate that on y the preferred schoo can meet the e:ceptiona medica or socia needs of the chi d. This can be in the form of a testimony from a medica practitioner, socia 1orker or other professiona 1ho can support the app ication on an Be:ceptiona B basis. Children whose parent-carer is a member of staff employed on a permanent contract by the school for t1o or more years at the time at 1hich the app ication for admission to the schoo is made or 1here the member of staff is recruited to fi a ,acant post for 1hich there is a demonstrab e ski shortage e,idenced by comp etion of the staff supp ementary information form. 8This co,ers staff 1orking at the schoo to 1hich the app ication re ates but does not inc ude staff 1ho 1ork on the schoo site for other emp oyers9; 4. Other children measured by a straight ine on the map using P ymouth .ity .ounci ’s e ectronic mapping system1 – the shorter the distance, the higher the priority. Measurement points 1i be from the spatia ocator identified by the Nationa Eand and Property GaFetteer. P aces 1i norma y be offered in the Year Group according to the chi d’s date of birth but a parent may submit an app ication for a Year Group other than the chi d’s chrono ogica Year Group. We 1i make a decision on the basis of the circumstances of each case and in the best interests of the chi d concerned. This 1i inc ude taking account of the parent’s ,ie1s; information about the chi d’s academic, socia and emotiona de,e opment; 1here re e,ant, their medica history and the ,ie1s of a medica professiona ; 1hether they ha,e pre,ious y been educated out of their norma age group; and 1hether they may natura y ha,e fa en into a o1er age group if it 1ere not for being born premature y. We 1i a so take into account the ,ie1s of the head teacher of the schoo 8s9 concerned. Parents must not assume that the decision of one schoo 1i transfer 1ith the chi d to a different schoo as the decision rests 1ith the indi,idua admission authority.

    Pupil Premium Review for 2015-2016 Background Summer 2014 The performance of disadvantaged students in Year 11 in the summer of 2014 was very disappointing. The Year 11 disadvantaged cohort in 2013/14 was small, significantly less able on entry than their peers (KS2 APS of 26 vs. 29 for non-disadvantaged) and over 50% of them had extremely challenging home circumstances and personal issues. We worked tirelessly with the group and used an extensive array of support strategies. This meant that despite the challenges we improved in several measures from the 2012/13 cohort – we increased the APS in both English and Maths (and narrowed the gaps with their peers), we increased the proportion of the cohort making 3 levels of progress in English and our Best 8 Value Added Score was higher than that of disadvantaged students nationally (991.1 vs. a national figure of 977). Additionally every single student went onto appropriate education, employment or training (0% NEETs). However, the performance of disadvantaged students in Maths was not acceptable and neither was the proportion achieving 5 A*-C inc. English and Maths. Summer 2015 The 2015 disadvantaged cohort was similar in ability (KS2 APS was 26) and again, a significant number had very challenging circumstances, including five students who joined us during KS4 after failing to succeed at other local secondary schools due to their extremely challenging behaviour. In February 2016, The Department for Education published the national school performance tables and we were delighted to see the exceptional progress made by our students. Overall progress for schools at this point was measured by a ‘Best 8 Value Added Score’.

    News from the Principal News for parents, carers, pupils, students of the Academy and the community of Paignton April 2013 Amazing Season For TUFC Development As Programme Draws To Close The Academy’s Torquay United Football Development Programme is enjoying the most successful season since the link was forged in 2007, with the squad on the verge of accomplishing an unprecedented ‘treble’. Already crowned South West College’s Champions, the squad requires just one point from their remaining two league games to clinch the British College’s Sport South West League title. The squad are all members of the 6th Form made up of made up from a combination of locally sourced players, in conjunction with players acquired from across the entire nation. They have bonded superbly and produced some fantastic performances which has seen them claim some notable victories against South Devon College, Ivybridge Community College and even current ‘League 1A’ Champions Merchants’ Sports Academy from Bristol who were defeated by an amazing 7 – 3 margin in the recent South West Area Cup Final. In pursuit of their third piece of silverware, the U18s Devon County Cup, Paignton must overcome Plymouth’s Plymstock School. The current squad have developed massively under the expert coaching of Nick Milton and have also benefitted from the input of former Premier League custodian Robbie Herrera. Players who impress are given the opportunity to train and in some cases play for Torquay United’s Youth Apprentices and even senior reserve squads. 2009 graduate Saul Halpin went all the way and became the initiative’s first full professional player.

Most opt for the local school or community college, often within easy walking distance of home, but others choose one outside the immediate area and may, therefore, need information about the availability of bus services. All Plymouth secondary schools and community colleges are listed in this leaflet, together with the main bus routes that stop at, or very near to, each one and the local areas that each route serves. (The route number and operator are coded – for example, PC 50 is a Plymouth Citybus route serving Tor Bridge High from the city centre via Prince Rock and Leigham).
