Jack Jackson is now the permanent chair of Nordab. The representative is to be confirmed. ACTION: BB to discuss with Jack Jackson of who will represent Nordab at future Advisory Group meetings. 2) Matters arising from ESB co-ordinator update All agreed that the first Advisory Group meeting was a success. BB confirmed that Petroc will seek to continue to find funding for the co-ordinator post. Nicky’s current contract expires 31st August 2019. DD confirmed that there will be changes, and expecting a different administration in charge, within both local authorities, after the local elections in May. There will then be an opportunity to promote the ESB to the new full council. BB discussed about the LEP work on Skills Advisory Panels and a view that ESB’s would be an integral part of the governance for Skills Advisory Panels. ACTION: BB will pursue this with the LEP. Other ESB’s in the area TS and MM had been trying to arrange a meeting with the Plymouth ESB, who are supported by their local council. BB had met with colleagues from Mid Devon Economic Development team and they are seeking to find out how we are operating, as there are getting no value or connectivity from their ESB which is the Greater Exeter.

Summary of Content Subject and Aims To provide an annual report to the Conference, through the Council, as directed by resolution 29/3 of the 2017 Conference [DR 6/8/2] Main Points Joint working and planned initiatives MAST MIST The Wesley Trust and proposed merger with the Acorn Trust (see paper MC/20/50) Introduction 1. The Methodist Schools Committee was established by Resolution 29/3 of the 2017 Conference. Its primary purposes are to ensure positive and constructive collaboration between the Methodist Academies and Schools Trust (MAST), the Methodist Independent Schools Trust (MIST), the Wesley Trust and their schools, to share resources, to encourage the development of the Methodist ethos in all our schools and to provide annually a co-ordinated report to the Conference through the Methodist Council on behalf of all Methodist Schools. Joint Working and Initiatives 2. The Trusts have worked together in the following ways: a. Actively engaging with the Methodist Schools Committee (MSC) with the Revd Dr Roger Walton as the inaugural Chair; b. Continuing through the MSC the necessary processes of discussion and identification of key areas of work required to enable the MSC, in due course, to submit to the Conference, in 2021, a schools’ educational strategy for the Church; the purpose of the strategy is to help guide future planning and interaction between the Church and the schools; c. Through the Ethos Development Group, chaired by the Revd Peter Whittaker, sharing experience and needs across the Trusts including, for example, how best to use resources such as Understanding Christianity and other RE teaching resources, including making access via the website to the Methodist story.

I am writing to confirm the tcome of the FE Commissioner Structure and Prospect · Appraisal of your Colle , and to set out the actions we now expect the College to take to ensure the Appraisal outcomes, and the FE Commissioner's earlier assessment, are fully implemented. I am very grateful for the support that the FE Commissioner has received from yourself and the College during the Appraisal, and the steps you have taken to date to respond to the recommendations in my predecessor's letter of 22 April 2014. As you are aware, in light of the notification by the Skills Funding Agency that the College's financial health is inadequate, the FE Commissioner reviewed the position of your College between 17 and 28 March 2014. The FE Commissioner acknowledged the capacity and capability of the governance and leadership to deliver financial recovery in the short term, but concluded that the College could not continue to operate on its own. The FE Commissioner was asked to lead a Structure and Prospects Appraisal to determine the way forward for land-based provision in the area. This Appraisal was completed in September 2014. I have now received the FE Commissioner's Appraisal report - a copy of which is attached.

    Pupil Premium Review for 2015-2016 Background Summer 2014 The performance of disadvantaged students in Year 11 in the summer of 2014 was very disappointing. The Year 11 disadvantaged cohort in 2013/14 was small, significantly less able on entry than their peers (KS2 APS of 26 vs. 29 for non-disadvantaged) and over 50% of them had extremely challenging home circumstances and personal issues. We worked tirelessly with the group and used an extensive array of support strategies. This meant that despite the challenges we improved in several measures from the 2012/13 cohort – we increased the APS in both English and Maths (and narrowed the gaps with their peers), we increased the proportion of the cohort making 3 levels of progress in English and our Best 8 Value Added Score was higher than that of disadvantaged students nationally (991.1 vs. a national figure of 977). Additionally every single student went onto appropriate education, employment or training (0% NEETs). However, the performance of disadvantaged students in Maths was not acceptable and neither was the proportion achieving 5 A*-C inc. English and Maths. Summer 2015 The 2015 disadvantaged cohort was similar in ability (KS2 APS was 26) and again, a significant number had very challenging circumstances, including five students who joined us during KS4 after failing to succeed at other local secondary schools due to their extremely challenging behaviour. In February 2016, The Department for Education published the national school performance tables and we were delighted to see the exceptional progress made by our students. Overall progress for schools at this point was measured by a ‘Best 8 Value Added Score’.

All sessions were designed and delivered by MADE’s professional trainers, and covered a range of topics that support students to progress through their studies and on to Higher Education. Sessions delivered included: Fast Track to Success Goals and Aspirations Exams MADE easy Rapid Revision Studying MADE Simple Advanced Note Taking Following the delivery model of MADE Training, all sessions were interactive, and encouraged students to participate and take away new skills and resources to support their personal development.
