AKSE ANNOUNCEMENTS & EVENTS WELCOME - NEWCOMERS AND VISITORS: We are glad you are with us and look forward to greeting you with a warm AKSE welcome at our Kiddush following services. KIDDUSH LUNCHEON: All Congregants are invited to share in the friendship and ruach of Shabbat at our Kiddush Luncheon sponsored by Jonathan Jaffe in honor of the Partnership Minyan Participants. Thank you to Judy Berlin and committee for preparing the Kiddush. All are welcome. PARTNERSHIP MINYAN SERVICE THIS SATURDAY: On Saturday morning, AKSE will have a Partnership Minyan Service beginning at 9 a.m. At this service both men and women will read Torah; men will read for men and women will read for women having aliyot. In addition, women may lead other parts of the service that are not obligatory for men. This service will have a mechitza; there will be no mixed seating. RABBI SAKS - WHAT PROFITS THE PROPHETS: Lunch and learn series continues this Saturday. Rabbi Saks will speak following Kiddush in place of his regular sermon. Topic: “Daniels Great Vision”. FREE BOOKS AND OTHER ITEMS AS WE “CLEAN HOUSE”: Congregants are invited to take books that are displayed on the bookshelves located in the cloak room. You will find a variety of prayer books, older and newer library books, books and magazines about Jewish pedagogy, and family-oriented books about holidays and rituals. For former Talmud Torah students, there are nostalgia (or fear?) inducing workbooks. Plus miscellaneous tchatchkes, children’s puzzle books, CDs, and video tapes. All are free for the taking through the end of August. JEWISH COMMUNITY SOFTBALL ON SUNDAY MORNINGS: Bring a glove, water, and sunscreen and we’ll provide the fun! All games are at the Siegel JCC softball field. Warm up 10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Game 10:30 a.m. to 12 noon. Open to the entire community at no charge - men, women and teens. Dates: August 19th & 26th. For questions, more information, or to be placed on our email list, please contact Brad Glazier at 302- 547-1281 or [email protected]. 2018 CANDIDATES' FORUM - MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 17TH: The Jewish Community Relations Committee (JCRC) of the Jewish Federation of Delaware and the Wilmington Chapter of Hadassah are jointly sponsoring a Candidates’ Forum for the offices of US Senate, US Representative, Attorney General, State Treasurer and Auditor of Accounts at 7 p.m. at the Siegel Jewish Community Center. Candidates for these offices will make opening statements and then answer questions from the audience submitted in writing. This event is free and open to the public. SPECIAL KABBALAT SHABBAT SERVICE - FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 16TH: There will be a Special Kabbalat Shabbat Service and Celebratory Dinner honoring Rabbi Saks’s 10th Anniversary as Spiritual Leader of AKSE. The service will begin at 6 p.m. and will be followed by the dinner. The cost for the dinner is $20 per person ages 14 and older and $15 per person ages 13 and under. Please make reservations by calling the AKSE office at 302-762-2705. Reservations must be made and paid in full by Friday, November 2nd. WILMINGTON, DE 19802 ORDER YOUR LULAV AND ETROG FOR SUKKOT One of the most colorful mitzvot is the mitzvah of Lulav and Etrog. The Lulav and Etrog are made up of four distinct species known as the Arba’ah Minim: the citron, palm branches, myrtle leaves and willow leaves. They are used in the Hallel service and in the Hoshanah procession during services on all the days of Sukkot (except Shabbat). At home, too, each member of the family holds and the waves the Arba’ah Minim in all six directions indicating that G-d’s glory fills the entire universe.
