A checklist of alien species with their taxonomy, synonymy and with a complete bibliography of their first records is presented. Analysis of the main trends of alien species introduction, present ecological status, origin and pathways is considered. Crawford is Assistant Professor of Modern and Contemporary Architecture in the Art History Department at Emory University and faculty of Emory’s Russian, East European, and Eurasian Studies Program. H-Ukraine: Not only are you a historian of architecture, but you are also a licensed architect and urban designer. You have produced designs and plans for a number of buildings and municipalities both domestically and internationally. What drew you to architecture as a profession, and what made you decide to teach architectural history? CC: I have always loved buildings and dreamed about becoming an architect from a pretty young age. I grew up in Maine in a house built in 1825 that provided countless spooky corners to explore and that sparked my imagination about who and what inhabited it before me. In college, I double majored in Architecture and Russian & Eastern European Studies (I’ll explain that below). I crafted a senior project that worked for both majors: a written thesis about the construction of the first line of the Moscow Metro in 1935, and a design for a contemporary Moscow Metro station. The project won a big prize at graduation—validation to pursue these disparate interests in tandem—but it took me a long time to figure out how to make a career of it. After serving as a Vice Consul in the US Consulate in St. Petersburg, Russia for a year (interviewing for and adjudicating US visas, a truly awful job), I went to architecture school at the Harvard Graduate School of Design (GSD) and then practiced as a licensed architect in Boston for nearly a decade while also teaching architectural history as an adjunct at Northeastern University—really, just for fun. -

Originating in the German Black Forest as two small rivers (Brigach and Breg) converging at the town of Donaueschingen, Danube is flowing for almost 2850 km mainly eastwards, passing through ten states (Germany, Austria, Slovakia, Hungary, Croatia, Serbia, Romania, Bulgaria, Moldova and Ukraine) and four European capitals (Vienna, Bratislava, Budapest and Belgrade) with embouchure in the west coasts of the Black Sea via the Danube Delta, mainly in Romania. Danube played a profound role in the European political, social, economic and cultural history influencing in a multifold manner the heritage of many European nations, some of those without even a physical connection with the River, as it is the case of the Greeks, to whom the Danube is a reference to their own 18th century Enlightenment movement. Due to Danube’s important role in History, the extensive emphasis to its cartographic depiction was obviously a conditio sine qua non especially in the 17th and 18th century European cartography. In this paper, taking advantage of the modern digital technologies as applied in the recently established domain of cartographic heritage, two important and historically significant 18th century maps of the Danube are comparatively discussed in view also to the reference possibilities available today in relevant studies by the digital maps offered by powerful providers as e.g. -
Aquatic Molluscs of the Mrežnica River

Nat. Croat. Vol. 28, No. 1., 99-106, Zagreb, 2019. Results of a malacological survey of the Mrežnica River are presented. The molluscan assemblages of this river between the boundary of the Eugen Kvarternik military area and the inflow to the Korana River near Karlovac were studied from 2013 to 2018. Altogether 29 aquatic molluscs (19 gastropods, 10 bivalves) were found at 9 sites. Theodoxus danubialis, Esperiana esperi, Microcolpia daudebartii and Holandriana holandrii were dominant at most of the sites. The molluscan assemblages were very similar to assemblages documented during previous research into the Korana River. The populations of the endangered bivalves Unio crassus and Pseudanodonta complanata were recorded. An extensive population of another endangered gastropod Anisus vorticulus was found at one site. Physa acuta is the only non-native species confirmed in the Mrežnica River. [email protected] Abstract: The coastal area of the eastern Adriatic is characterized with a prevalence of carbonate rocks and well-developed karst. Present freshwater input into the Adriatic is quite large, mostly through coastal and submarine springs. However, there are also a number of rivers debouching in the Adriatic from the eastern coast. Most of them have canyon like fluviokarstic valleys that were carved dominantly during Pleistocene and were drowned during post-LGM sea-level rise forming estuaries. These estuaries are filled to a different extent during Holocene highstand (last 7.500 years). The intraestuarine delta progradation is rather different in those estuaries depending on the quantity of the river- borne material. Human impact on progradation rate in some of the estuaries has been shown. Here are the Sečovlje saltworks, first mentioned in the 13th century. Due to their extremely abundant natural and historical heritage they were named a regional park and are a rich sanctuary of plant and animal worlds.
