Director Heather Page and Incentive Program Manager Robert Schuller patiently provided data on the Moving Image Incentive Program and advice on interpreting trends in the data and nuances in the program. The Bureau of Business Research, IC² Institute, The University of Texas at Austin The Bureau of Business Research (BBR) was established in 1926 to provide small business owners and policymakers with applied economic research and data to strengthen the state’s business environment. Throughout its history, the Bureau and its work have been characterized by objectivity and independence. The Bureau’s prolific publications include Texas Business Review, the Texas Business Leader’s Confidence Index, and numerous economic assessments and program evaluations. The IC² Institute was established in 1977 with the vision that science and technology are resources for economic development and enterprise growth. In addition to the BBR, the Institute oversees several targeted research programs that include the Austin Technology Incubator (with industry-specific incubation assistance for business start-ups in the software, clean energy, wireless, and bioscience technology sectors), and the Global Commercialization Group. INSTRUCTIONAL PROGRAM REVIEW-ANIMATION Questions regarding forms, calendars & due dates should be addressed to the I.E. Department. PROGRAM STATUS 1. Describe how the program supports: A. The college mission and core values. Collin Mission Statement Collin County Community College District is a student and community-centered institution committed to developing skills, strengthening character, and challenging the intellect. The Communication Design Animation Program supports the Collin Mission by focusing on the student as an individual, a member of a team and a contributor to the community of animators making up the industry. The Animation Program also contributes to the local and regional community in three ways: • Training skilled animators and designers to fill workforce needs of a rapidly growing and expanding industry. • Serving as a regional hub of information and activities such as hosting the annual Industry Giants conference, faculty, students and professional exhibitions in the College’s The Arts Gallery as well as other student- and community-centered organizations and activities. • Regularly soliciting input from an engaged advisory board made up of local industry professionals and leaders. The communication Design Department’s Animation Program supports the College’s mission by training students in the skills to succeed as successful animators in the growing and competitive field of computer animation for both film and computer games. This sort of study was grounded in the auteur theory—following authorship approaches in literature—and was invested in a consistency that justified the place of film authorship as a worthy pursuit in academia. In this study, however, I examine Mexican-American filmmaker Robert Rodriguez through a discursive analysis, unencumbered to textual analysis or even a chronological approach, with a look at the media discourse, Rodriguez’s own writings and interviews, and the pertinent scholarship. His debut award-winning debut feature, El Mariachi (1992), as well as the production diary that would soon follow, Rebel Without a Crew: Or How a 23-Year-Old Filmmaker with $7,000 Became a Hollywood Player inspired a generation of filmmakers into making ultra-low (or microbudget) films. -

In March, we held a luncheon to thank the major Tdonors whose generous gifts helped the Jindal School surpass its Campaign for Tier One goal of $50 million. At the end of the campaign, we had reached the $53.4 million mark. The University also exceeded its campaign goal of $200 million. Thanks to all who gave and who continue to give for your help in making the Jindal School better every day. Thanks to the campaign, 52 new endowments were created in our school, ensuring critical support for new pro- grams such as commercial real estate and professional sales, and creating new opportunities for student scholar- ships and fellowships. We have created 16 endowments for scholarships and fellowships, 16 opportunity funds, nine support funds for students and miscellaneous needs, and 11 endowments for faculty chairs. Recently, six professors named to endowed posts were formally honored at an investiture ceremony. You can read about the investitures in this issue. I believe that top faculty members and their research are key components in building a top school. Dr. Shaojie Tang, a new assistant professor on our information systems faculty, earned two best paper awards this academic year at international symposiums devoted to computing, networking and next-generation information technology applications. I am also happy to report that Dr. Özalp Özer, Dr. Daniel Rajatranam and Dr. Mike Peng earned recognitions for papers that have advanced the knowledge base in their fields. -
