Svensk titel: August Strindbergs arkiv – från privatarkiv till kulturarv: En studie i proveniensprincipens tillämpning och nationalistisk historietolkning. Engelsk titel: The Strindberg Archives – from Private Archives to Cultural Heritage: A Study of the Application of the Principle of Provenance and of a Nationalistic Interpretation of History. Författare: Ola Törjas Färdigställt: 2003 Handledare: Dick Kasperowski, Anders Burius Abstract: In this thesis I examine the events that followed the death of August Strindberg and resulted in his private belongings becoming an important part of Sweden’s cultural heritage. My purpose has been twofold: firstly, to identify which aims were sought to be achieved when dealing with Strindberg's archives and his home and to relate these to a nationalistic interpretation of history, secondly, to relate this work to the then newly introduced archival principle, the Principle of provenance. I identified three different aims: firstly the economic aim must be seen in the light of an increasingly expanding publishing market. I argue that the author gained a new and important role in the general social debate (a nationalistic one), an important point with regard to my following conclusions. Secondly, the aim to store and display the material in a museum is discussed in relation to different views of cultural history and the interpretation of history. August Strindberg was himself involved in this debate and therefore a close connection can be found between different theoretical views and the practical problems of presenting history in a museum. The third aim was research which is, of course, also related to the previous aspects and which is furthermore affected by an individualisation of historical research and the scientific belief that a distance in time is needed before the researcher can fully understand what is being studied. I discuss the introduction of the Principle of Provenance from a practical and theoretical angle. A connection between the principle's respect for the integrity of the individual and the individualistic historical view of the Swedish nationalism is made. Through different agents with different aims, we can also see several ways of interpreting the meaning of the principle and how they practise it. • A Director's Approach to Ingmar Bergman's Nora Cason Warinner
ABSTRACT Opening the Door: A Director’s Approach to Ingmar Bergman’s Nora Cason Warinner Murphy, M.F.A. Thesis Chairperson: Marion D. Castleberry, Ph.D. In 1981, Swedish filmmaker Ingmar Bergman radically adapted Henrik Ibsen’s classic stageplay A Doll’s House in order to create his own theatrical work, Nora. Through cutting much of Ibsen’s text and many of his characters, Bergman focused his adaptation on the figure of Nora Helmer, a naïve 19th-century wife and mother desperately trying to avoid the consequences of her past actions. This thesis examines the process undertaken in bringing Bergman’s play to its November 2015 performance run at Baylor University, with explorations of playwright and playscript histories, of directorial analysis and production concepts, and the creative collaborations established between director, designers, and actors. Dear Shareholders, I am happy to share with you that 2016 was another truly successful year for Zwack Unicum Plc. This is due to the fact that our premium brands once again enjoyed a highly positive year, the sales figures of Unicum and Unicum Plum in- creased, and our Kalinka, as well as Hubertus brands were also very profitable. Last year our product portfolio was also enriched by Kalinka Gold, Kalinka’s premium variant, which we started to market before the end of the year through our top gastronomy and retail partners. Our Fütyülős product family has also contributed to our success with its excel- lent performance in top retail channels. We are proud that our marketing activities and communication campaigns proved to be exceptionally successful not only regarding their impact, but also from the professional point of view. The best proof of this are the recognition we were accorded by professionals in the advertising industry. Seven of the campaigns launched by us were rated among the top three at the most prestigious competitions like the Arany Penge creative contest, the Effie Awards for advertising effectiveness, the Prism PR contest, and the Lollipop advertising contest. Several of our projects finished in the best three. We received, among others, the Arany Penge, Effie, Silver Lollipop and Gold Prism awards. We pay growing attention to dig- italization, be it about a novel method of communication, or an internal information flow. Maintaining our traditions, it is important for us to support as many positive initiatives in Hungary as possible. We are permanent sponsors of the Children’s Clinic of Tűzoltó street which, due to our support in 2016 was able to acquire three important surgical instruments.

  • Essentials of Expressionism and August Strindberg's a Dream Play
EUROPEAN ACADEMIC RESEARCH Vol. VIII, Issue 12/ March 2021 Impact Factor: 3.4546 (UIF) ISSN 2286-4822 DRJI Value: 5.9 (B+) www.euacademic.org Essentials of Expressionism and August Strindberg’s A Dream Play: A Theoretical Study in Context Dr. ISHFAQ A. YATOO Assistant Professor (Contractual) Department of English, University of Kashmir Srinagar, J&K, India Abstract This paper attempts to study August Strindberg’s A Dream Play within the perspective of Expressionist theatre. The unconventional features of theatrical expressionism like; dreamlike atmosphere, setting, disjointed plot, typification, rhapsodic and poetic dialogue, etc. are thoroughly studied in context. One of the main objectives is to illustrate Strindberg’s mode of weaving together the form and content in the ‘spirit of a dream’ by employing dreamlike form and strikingly framing the content that itself reflects on dreamlike vanity of human life. This accentuates that the clueless flashes in a dream are tantamount to the otiose human strive in real life. Sigmund Freud’s view of a dream being true to real and ‘an expression of repressed drives’ is applicable on A Dream Play due to its semi-autobiographical merit which, featuring as an element, is itself at the core of expressionist theatre. This theoretical paradigm, thus, is used to argue Strindberg’s way of giving expression to his ‘personal neuroses’ and the appropriation of otherwise intriguing title of this drama. Use of symbols also characterizes expressionist theatre which comes handy in A Dream Play. This paper, therefore, is also an effort to analyse such symbols remarkably significant in both the form as well as in the content of the play under study.

(A. Strindberg, Ur-tjuva, 1910) År 2008 presenterade jag i Gdańsk texten ”Fröken Julie – designed 2 in Russia!”

ZEENATH MOHAMED KUNHI Assistant Professor Centre for Research & Advanced Studies in English Language & Literature Farook College, Calicut India Abstract: The Dream Play, a semi-autobiographical piece by Augustus Strindberg, written during his ‘inferno crisis’ is a metaphor for life itself with its twists and turns and ups and downs. The play structured in a dream mode, takes one through the intricate alleys and by-lanes of man’s inner world of emotions and thoughts and the unpredictability, mystery, conflict and insecurity associated with the world outside. The Dream Play tries to successfully achieve this mastery of dual portrayal, both thematically and structurally. The play is probably the first of its kind in adopting a dream mode as a genre in itself. This kind of a theatrical presentation is made possible by the excessive use of symbols and poetic images which literally float across the text, lending it a haunting, surreal experience. The paper is an attempt to interpret the play with special emphasis on the symbols and images employed by the author. • 'P-Aris': Note for an Unwritten Volume of Strindberg's
    5. ‘P-aris’: Note for an Unwritten Volume of Strindberg’s Autobiography It is frequently assumed that by the end of 1894 Strindberg had turned away from literature and entered upon the period of scientic and alchemical experiment that accompanied the early phases of his Inferno crisis, that period of intense self-scrutiny, experiment, mental and spiritual turmoil and, ultimately, self-renewal that led to his re-emergence as a writer with Inferno in 1897 and To Damascus in 1898. However, this notion needs to be treated with some circumspection. As is so often the case with Strindberg, it is a view that originates with, and is fostered by, the author himself. As he informed Le Temps, in 14 January 1895: ‘At the moment I am returning to science, which I have never completely forsaken; but I am now going to devote myself to it and nothing else’, while fteen months later he continued to maintain, this time in Le Gaulois of 4 April 1896: ‘I am entirely devoted to chemistry and botany. at is quite enough for me. Literature no longer interests me in the slightest.’ Yet it is doubtful if Strindberg’s neglect of literature was in fact as absolute as he suggests here. While his interest was certainly subdued during most of 1895, it is evident from his letters, especially those to Torsten Hedlund in Gothenburg during 1895–6, that he was all the time considering the exploitation of his experiences in terms of literature. As Sven Delblanc has suggested, the Inferno crisis needs to be seen ‘as an active rather than a passive process: Strindberg does not undergo a process of reshaping, rather he chooses in a magnicent, half-unconscious act of will an outlook on life that is morally meaningful and aesthetically fruitful’.1 e question, as Strindberg was again the rst to point out, was to nd an adequate form for the experiences to which he opened himself during these years, and there were to be many stages on the way to his re-entry into literature.

The other system failed to recognize correct answers to free response questions time and time again. That means students who were actually answering correctly were receiving failing grades.
