CAPITAL RENEWABLE ENERGY PRECINCT COMMUNITY NEWSLETTER MARCH 2017

Bush fire season update Like many farmers, the Site Manager of the Capital and Woodlawn wind farms is pleased to see the back of the peak of the bush fire season. While there are routine emergency drills that take place at the to practice coordination during an emergency, lessons can be learnt from real emergencies.

According to the Lake George Rural Fire Service, there have been 13 fires (grass, bush, shrub) in the area situated between Bungendore and Collector Road. The official report regarding the Currandooley fire is still to be provided to Infigen at the time of writing this newsletter, however, Infigen understands that initial reports identified that a bird strike was the cause of the fire. Infigen intends to learn from any events that occur on our wind farms. Once Infigen receives the official report regarding the Currandooley fire, we will consider whether any amendments to our procedures would be appropriate.

If you were affected by the recent fires in the Tarago area, please contact the Bungendore Community Foundation to seek relief for primary needs or assistance with remedy works. Contact Rick Gibson at [email protected].

Assistance is also available to communities affected by the Currandooley fire through the jointly funded Commonwealth-State Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements. Further information on disaster assistance is available on the Australian Government’s Disaster Assist website www.disasterassist.gov.au/Pages/disasters/current-disasters/New-South-Wales/Southern-ranges- bushfires-from-17-january-2017.aspx and the New South Wales emergency information and response website at www.emergency.nsw.gov.au.
