This pdf was last updated: Feb/01/2011. Leningrad Cowboys Band’s unique musical style of performing cover and original songs combined with highly visual stage-look aims’ for one common goal - to make the audience scream, jump and party! Line-up Richard Johnson - vocals Sakke Järvenpää - vocals Tuomas Uusitalo - vocals, guitar Tomi Vartiainen - guitar Marzi Nyman - guitar Mauri Sumén - keyboards Timo Tolonen - bass Sami Järvinen - drums Juuso Hannukainen - percussions On Stage: 9 Travel Party: 10 Website www.leningradcowboys.fi Biography The band's visual look - unicorn hairdos and half meter long, sharp-pointed shoes are already worldwide known and well-established Leningrad Cowboys trademarks. For over fifteen years, the band has performed in hundreds of festivals, clubs and TV shows in over fifty countries; including Europe, Japan, Hong Kong, South America, Australia, USA and the United Arab Emirates. In June 1993 the Leningrad Cowboys pulled off the most amazing production: "Total Balalaika Show", a joint concert with the full 160-member Russian Red Army Ensemble, which the Variety magazine called "the most incongruous - and inspired - crosscultural pairing since Nureyev danced with Miss Piggy". The setting for this sensational show was grandiose: the biggest stage ever built in Finland, on the main square of Helsinki and witnessed by an enthusiast audience of 70.000 people! The Helsinki concert was followed in 1994 with a second Balalaika-joint-concert of the Leningrad Cowboys and the Red Army Ensemble. The "NOKIA Balalaika Show" took place at Berlin’s Lustgarten, where 60.000 people enjoyed the concert on this historical day, which witnessed the farewell march of the allied troops.

  • The Auteurial-National Nexus and Aki Kaurismäki's Finland Trilogy
“Our Aki” The auteurial-national nexus and Aki Kaurismäki’s Finland trilogy Sanna Peden Bachelor of Arts (European Studies) Honours This thesis is presented for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy of The University of Western Australia School of Humanities European Studies 2012 Abstract This thesis explores the interconnections of ‘Finnishness’ and ‘Kaurismäkianness’ in and around Aki Kaurismäki’s so-called Finland trilogy: Drifting Clouds (1996), The Man Without A Past (2002) and Lights in the Dusk (2006). The thesis addresses how Kaurismäki, whose work and public persona have tended to be critical of national institutions and preoccupations, has developed into an increasingly national figure in Finland’s years of Europeanisation. In order to examine the links between ‘Finnishness’ and ‘Kaurismäkianness’ I establish, first, the way in which Kaurismäki’s films engage with national themes; and, second, the way in which this Kaurismäkian take on Finnishness is received and further appropriated in Finland. I provide a textual analysis of each of the focus films, paying particular attention to their national aspects and their references to Kaurismäki’s other films. I combine this close analysis of the film texts with discussion of the context of the films, their media presence and ‘afterlife’, for example the discourses surrounding the films after their initial release or the ways in which their ‘Kaurismäkianness’ has been appropriated by others for specifically national purposes. In seeking to understand how Kaurismäki’s auteurial engagement with narratives of Finnishness feeds back into Finnish society this thesis contributes to current debates about the relationship between auteurs and national identity.

Why does ‘urbanness’ retreat from the newly produced public spaces? Why does the political significance of urban space seem to be lost? In this research, the structures of thinking in planning and architecture are identified as a key reason for those problems.

However, going forward on that road would demand skipping out on the picture next. What would we have then-- a shadow? So, always ready for compromises, I decided to turn around and make this film here, which has loads of dialogues plus a variety of colors - not to mention other Commercial values. I have to admit that deep in my subconscious, there might have been a hope that this step would make me seem normal, too. My social, economical and Political views of the state of society, moral and love can hopefully be found from the film itself.

  • Rock Album Discography Last Up-Date: September 27Th, 2021
Rock Album Discography Last up-date: September 27th, 2021 Rock Album Discography “Music was my first love, and it will be my last” was the first line of the virteous song “Music” on the album “Rebel”, which was produced by Alan Parson, sung by John Miles, and released I n 1976. From my point of view, there is no other citation, which more properly expresses the emotional impact of music to human beings. People come and go, but music remains forever, since acoustic waves are not bound to matter like monuments, paintings, or sculptures. In contrast, music as sound in general is transmitted by matter vibrations and can be reproduced independent of space and time. In this way, music is able to connect humans from the earliest high cultures to people of our present societies all over the world. Music is indeed a universal language and likely not restricted to our planetary society. The importance of music to the human society is also underlined by the Voyager mission: Both Voyager spacecrafts, which were launched at August 20th and September 05th, 1977, are bound for the stars, now, after their visits to the outer planets of our solar system (mission status: https://voyager.jpl.nasa.gov/mission/status/). They carry a gold- plated copper phonograph record, which comprises 90 minutes of music selected from all cultures next to sounds, spoken messages, and images from our planet Earth. There is rather little hope that any extraterrestrial form of life will ever come along the Voyager spacecrafts. But if this is yet going to happen they are likely able to understand the sound of music from these records at least.

M: B. Alexandrov, Tipe Johnson. K: Heikki Ortamo. S: Timo Linnasalo. Musiker: Leningrad Cowboys, Alexandrov Red Army Ensemble. UA: 2.7.1994. DVD-Ed.: 2005 (Facets). 54min. 1,85:1. Farbe. Old and New, East and West“.
