The next meeting will be held on Monday, June 3rd at 1:00 p.m. in St. Mary’s Church. Please submit names of those suffering from serious illness who are homebound, in hospitals or in nursing homes to Gloria Handzelek 542 4460, Ann McElligott 864 2331 or Mary Lou Zaleski 736 6336. All members of Holy Spirit Parish are encouraged to pray for those whose names are on our Prayer List, to pray for Pope Francis and the healing of Holy Mother Church, and to attend our prayer meetings. WEEKEND OFFERTORY PROCESSION : If you requested a weekend Mass for a loved one and wish to have family members bring up the Offertory gifts at the Mass, please see an usher to let them know. ! CELL PHONES, TEXTING AND VIDEO GAMES : We ask you to please refrain from using them in church. We especially ask parents to help by asking your children to turn off all cell phones during liturgy. ! VISITING THE SICK : Parishioners are reminded that if you or a loved one are admitted into a hospital or a nursing home, call the Parish Office and arrangements can be made to bring Holy Communion. ! SPONSORS FOR THE SACRAMENTS: One of the very important traditions and practices of the Catholic faith is the role of Godparents at Baptism & Sponsors for Confirmation. To serve as a sponsor it is required that a person be at least 16 years of age, received the Sacraments of Baptism, Holy Eucharist, Confirmation and if married, be married according to the regulations for marriage as provided by the Roman Catholic Church. Also, the sponsor is to be a weekly participant in the Sunday Eucharist & actively strive to live out their own baptismal commitment to Christ (cf. Code of Canon Law, c.874). Each sponsor is required to obtain a “sponsor letter” from their parish indicating that they fulfill these requirements ! PARISH HAPPENINGS ! ! ! MEMORIAL DAY MASS : Mass on Memorial Day, Monday, May 27 will be celebrated at10:00 a.m. in St. Adal- bert Cemetery, Lee. ! ! VESPERS AND FAMILY PICNIC : St. Martha's Church will host a Vespers service (Evening Prayer) and Benediction on Sunday, June 2 at 4:00 p.m. Students from Good Shepherd Academy in Kingston as well as young people from our parish will lead the singing at the service. A free family picnic with food and games will follow. Parishioners are invited to bring a tray of something to share at the picnic. Everyone is welcome to attend this special celebration. For more information, call 570 256 7329. ! ! CONFIRMATION : Holy Spirit Parish will hold confirmation on Saturday, June 8, 2019 in St. Mary Church, at the 4:15 p.m. Mass. ! ! TV MASS FOR THE HOMEBOUND : Is someone you love unable to join us at church? Please invite anyone you know who cannot get out to church to tune in Catholic Mass on TV (channel 56) @ 8 am or anytime on Sundays @ www.HeartoftheNation.org. ! ! VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL 2019 : VBS will be held July 15 19, 2019. This years theme is The “Mane Event”. ! ! MOTHER’S DAY CARNATION SALE: Thank you to everyone who supported our Mothers Day Carnation sale. Pro Life will receive $425.00. ($171.00 St. Martha, $48.00 St. Mary, $206.00 St. Adalbert.) Thank you to the Holy Name Society for purchasing the 30 carnations that did not sell. ! AROUND TOWN ! THE OBLATES OF ST. JOSEPH will celebrate the Feast Day of their founder, St. Joseph Marello, with a Triduum, three days of prayers, at the Oblates of St. Joseph Chapel, 1880 Route 315, Laflin (Pittston). The triduum devotion will begin on Sunday, May 26 th !and will continue through Tuesday, May 28 th !with a Holy Mass celebrated at 7:00 p.m. in the seminary chapel, followed by devotional prayers to St. Joseph Marello and individual blessing with a first class relic of the Saint. Con- fessions will be heard before the Mass and the Holy Rosary will be recited. The Feast of St. Joseph Marello will be solemnly celebrated on Wednesday, May 29 th !with the Holy Masses at 11:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. in the seminary chapel. Serving as principal celebrant and homilist will be the Very Reverend Matthew Spencer, O.S.J. the new American Provincial. !St. Jo- seph Marello (1844 1895) was a priest of the Diocese of Asti in the Piedmont region of Italy and founded the Oblates of St. Joseph Congregation in 1878. ! He served as bishop in the nearby diocese of Acqui from 1889 until his death on May 30, 1895. Pope St. John Paul II beatified Joseph Marello in 1993 in the saint’s native city of Asti and then canonized him in 2001 at St. Peter’ Basilica, Vatican City. The Oblates of St. Joseph have been serving the Diocese of Scranton since 1929 and also they minister in 15 countries around the world. Everyone is invited to attend the Triduum and the Feast Day Cele- bration. ! ! COMMUNITY CHOIRFEST : The First United Methodist Church, Shickshinny, will host the sixteenth annual Community Choirfest on Sunday, June 9 at 6:00 p.m. This year’s concert is titled “Bless the Corners" and will feature both sacred and secular choral music, string trios, congregational hymns, and more. Admission is free and a reception will follow the performance. The church is located on the corner of US 11 and East Butler Street, Shickshinny. WOMENS CONFERENCE : Second Catholic Women’s Conference June 22 at 8:00 am The Conference is an annual gathering of Christian women in the Diocese at the University of Scranton, Byron Recreational Complex, 800 Linden Street. This year the theme is Come to the Well and will feature Catholic speakers, Theresa Tomeo, Jill Metz, Sr. Mercy Marie; mu- sic group, His Own; and host, Meghan Murphy. Mass will be celebrated by The Most Reverend, Bishop Joseph Bambera. Early bird ticket price is $40 until June 9, and $50 after that date. Student tickets are $20 and religious are welcome at no charge. Light breakfast and lunch are included. Please save the date and consider joining us for this uplifting event. The event, coordinated by the Diocese of Scranton, brings to- gether men of high school age who are committed to their Catholic faith and are actively involved in the life of their parish- es. The name Quo Vadis (“Where are you going?”) poses the question that every person faces as their life unfolds and they make decisions about their vocation, be it as a single or married person, someone called to serve as a priest or religious. ! ! 10th ANNUAL VOCATIONS GOLF CLASSIC : Your gift fosters vocations, benefits seminarians directly and helps ensure no man hesitates to answer God’s call due to prior obligation.
