You Are Invited to Join

“The Guardians of St. Joseph Marello’s Home” Ministry

Please consider joining a team of 18 parishioners who share their helping hands and hearts to maintain the beauty of our St. Joseph Marello home! Every Friday

morning, after the 8AM Mass, 6-8 volunteers meet for approximately an hour to tidy up the Church, Ministry Center, and surrounding facilities. Snacks are provided!

THE GOAL: Our hope is to form a ministry of stewardship, “Guardians of St. Joseph Marello’s Home”,

similar to our neighboring Parish, Sts. Peter and Paul, where teams of volunteers rotate weekly throughout each month. Ideally, with a large number of ministry members, a parishioner would volunteer only once a month. If Fridays do not work into your schedule, let us know because we are flexible! “Start by doing what’s necessary, then do what’s possible, and suddenly, you are doing the impossible.” To join the ministry or for more information contact: St. Francis of Assisi Dave and Ann Whitman 916-780-0218

Lighthouse Book of the Week: Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Heaven Peter Kreeft provides a look at the nature of Heaven that offers all readers a refreshingly clear, theologically sound, and always fascinating glimpse of that “undiscovered country.” Kreeft combines solid scholarship with a lively ability to communicate his findings. He speaks to the heart and mind, blending contemporary thinking and classical views to give us an unexcelled look at one of the most popular, yet least understood, subjects in religion. *** St Joseph MarelloParish *** Announcements Sunday, September 18, 2016 5 A Great Opportunity for Our Youth to The Vocations Prayer Cross Serve Our Church!!! will be at the homes of

Why does the Church teach about issues affecting public policy?

The Church’s obligation to participate in shaping the moral character of society is a requirement of our faith, a part of the mission we have received from Jesus Christ, who offers a clear vision of our human dignity and compels us to love our neighbors as he loved us. What faith teaches about the dignity of the human person, about the sacredness of every human life, and about humanity’s strengths and weaknesses helps us see more clearly the same truths that also come to us through the gift of human reason. At the center of these truths is respect for the dignity of every person. This is the core of Catholic moral and social teaching. Because we are people of both faith and reason, we need to bring this essential truth about human life and dignity to the public square. We are also called to promote the well- being of all, to share our blessings with those most in need, to defend marriage, and to protect the lives and dignity of all, especially the weak, the vulnerable, the voiceless. Our nation’s tradition of pluralism is enhanced, not threatened, when religious groups and people of faith bring their convictions and concerns into public life. Indeed, our Church’s teaching is in accord with the foundation- al values that have shaped our nation’s history: “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.” - Taken from: USCCB - Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship; pp 5-7.
