Directions to Ishikawa Campus Important Information Note: Please read this chapter thoroughly as well as the guide for each examination. If there are any corrections or additions to this booklet, we will update them in the news page on our website. I . Important Notice regarding Application for Admission Applicants are not allowed to apply for other examinations conducted by JAIST until they receive the result of an examination. Application documents which are incomplete will be rejected. Modification of submitted application documents is not permitted. Documents will not be returned to applicants. Only applicants should fill in the application documents except for certificates or letters of recommendation. If it is discovered that an applicant has made false statements or has neglected matters to be stated on application documents, the admission may be revoked even after enrollment. Applicants who have not graduated from their university and submit an expected graduation certificate at the time of application must submit their graduation certificate after graduation. If they do not submit the graduation certificate by the specified date, their admission may be revoked even after enrollment. In principle, the screening fee is non-refundable. However, the fee will be refundable in the following three cases. If it is the case for you, please contact the Admissions Section by the end of the month of enrollment. In case applicants have paid the screening fee without submitting the application documents. In case applicants have paid the screening fee, however, the application was rejected by JAIST. In case applicants have paid the fee twice by mistake. Successful applicants cannot defer enrollment to a later semester or year. Application guide for collaborative graduate education between other universities are specified separately. II . Informal laboratory assignment prior to enrollment Successful applicants are eligible to apply for an informal lab assignment prior to enrollment. Visit our website for details. JAIST Top Page > Education > Academic Procedures > Informal Laboratory Assignment Prior to Enrollment Since applicants for Admission on Recommendation for Overseas Residents are required to obtain an informal consent of acceptance from their intended supervisor prior to the formal application, those who successfully passed the examination will be assigned to the laboratory of their intended supervisor without using this system. I II. Extended Study Period for Completion The standard periods for completion are two years for a master’s degree and three years for a doctoral degree. However, students may be granted extension of their study period as one of the student support services when they face difficulty in completing the degree within the standard study period due to fair reasons related to their work or personal affairs. Students who wish to extend their study period must contact the Educational Service Section (Email: [email protected]) for details and apply by the designated deadline below. In recent years, so-called “big data” have been attracting the attention of companies and researchers. For example, convenience stores now can quickly predict sales of new products from the enormous amounts of information collected by cash register terminals and thereby optimize their purchases and inventories. Several governments and researchers have implemented such mechanisms in tourism. This study aims to identify the number of visitors of each period and their characteristics based on the location data of mobile phone users collected by the mobile phone company. The study sites of this survey are tourist destinations in Ishikawa Prefecture and Toyama city, including Kanazawa city, which became nationally popular after the Hokuriku Shinkansen opened in 2015. The opening of the Hokuriku Shinkansen brought more visitors to many areas. However, it also led to fewer visitors in some areas. The positive effect was remarkable in Kanazawa. Introduction The opening of the bullet train or Hokuriku Shinkansen from Nagano to Kanazawa in March in 2015, which directly connects to Tokyo, has had important positive effects in Ishikawa Prefecture, such as the increase in the number of visitors to the area. However, this development has negatively influenced some industries in Ishikawa. In particular, the number of airline passengers between Tokyo (Haneda Airport) and Ishikawa (Komatsu Airport) has decreased after the opening, and the number of Komatsu–Handa (KH) flights also decreased from 12 flights per day before 2014 to 10 flights per day after 2016. Because planners expected the reduction in the number of KH flights and implemented various measures to maintain the level of service offered. Such measures have ensured the operation of 10 KH flights per day at present, but the expansion of the Hokuriku Shinkansen to Tsuruga (Fukui Prefecture, next to Ishikawa Prefecture) from Kanazawa in the spring of 2023 may cause further negative impacts on the number of flights and passengers. However, accidents in the Hokuriku Shinkansen in those areas could result in the train shutting down for many days—a real problem that already occurred in 2019. Therefore, KH flights are expected to be continued due to risk management concerns about the area’s transportation system and the related economic aspects. Based on the validity of KH flights, this paper analyzes the effects on KH flights influenced by the Hokuriku Shinkansen Kanazawa opening and the extension to Tsuruga.
