MEMBERSHIP AND GROW ROTARY The last RWM that was held on 7th August, 2020 was a treat to watch for not only the new members but also a lot of old and not so old ones. Two of our respected and highly knowledgeable Past Presidents held centre stage. They took us to the journey of Mahanagar over the years and emphasised on important points for each and every member of Mahanagar. PP Anand Sureka expressed the importance of recognizing the leaders of the past whose activities have built what Mahanagar today is and explained how to move forward with equal agility and vision. He appreciated the efforts of each and every leader of Mahanagar and highlighted their special abilities. The reason why so many members are attached to Mahanagar was shared with newer members not only for being cherished but also for motivation to develop leadership of the future. PP Anand has been a leader par excellence himself and his Presidentship during the Millennium year of Rotary was not only stepping stones to permanent flagship projects of Mahanagar but most of the members of his Board of Directors have gone on to take the mantle of presidentship of Mahanagar due to the excellent motivation provided by him. PP Sanjay Dugar, has been an exceptional leader of Mahanagar and has been continuously supportive for several flagship projects of the club. Trees have been close to his heart and he has helped grow several thousands of them. PP Sanjay took the members into very important and vital statistics on the constancy in the growth of Rotary over the years with balance being maintained by inflow of members substituting those leaving. He also highlighted the growth of membership in Rotary in India and the phenomenal numbers that India has put up in terms of Rotarians. He emphasized on four ‘R’s which are the reasons for which members join Rotary. These are Recreation, Recognition, Reciprocation and Rejuvenation. In return, these are the four ‘S’s which state the qualities to look out in members. They are Sincerity, Sobriety, Supportivity and Sensitivity. Both of them spoke about the following topics:- l How Rotary Membership is a lifetime experience l How to install a new club using the right tools and resources l Converting Rotaractors into Rotarians l Increasing the presence of Rotary Club of Calcutta Mahanagar across social media l Making Rotary accessible to everyone The meeting was vividly insightful and truly opportune for the participants to learn.
