Crossrail 2 Factsheet: Wimbledon Station Crossrail 2 factsheet: Wimbledon station Crossrail 2 is a proposed new railway line serving London and the South East, linking Surrey to Hertfordshire via central London destinations. A new Crossrail 2 station is proposed at Wimbledon. The earliest the scheme could open by is 2030. Why do we need a Crossrail 2 station here? RVAR 2010 came into force on 6th April 2010. The following year Transport for London (TfL) commissioned a review of the Bombardier CR4000 fleet against the Requirements of RVAR 2010. Since the 2011 review several work streams have been carried out to make modifications to the trams to address the areas of non-compliance. However due to the prioritisation of maintenance activities to ensure availability of the required number of trams to meet service each day and safety related works; all the necessary modifications to the trams have not taken place. Operating within tight budgetary constraints has also led to the de-scoping of works items, and often meant the non- availability of budget for works to take place. A further review against the Requirements was performed in August 2019, during which several of the open items on the Bombardier CR4000 were closed, with a few remaining non-compliant. A few instances of non-compliance were also noted on the newer Stadler Trams. Subsequently London Trams has compiled the following application for time limited and permanent exemptions against the remaining areas of non-compliance against the Requirements. The comments are made from TfL’s role as a transport operator and highway authority in the area. These comments do not necessarily represent the views of the Greater London Authority (GLA). A separate response has been prepared by TfL Commercial Development to reflect TfL’s interests as a landowner and potential developer. Thank you for giving Transport for London (TfL) the opportunity to comment as part of the stage 2a consultation on Merton’s Draft Local Plan. The Mayor first published his draft new London Plan for consultation on 1st December 2017. Following examination, the Panel’s report, including recommendations, was issued to the Mayor on 8 October 2019 and the Intend to Publish version of the London Plan was published on the 17 December 2019. The Mayor has formally approved a new London Plan; the Publication London Plan, which has been prepared to address the Secretary of State’s directions of the 13 March 2020 and 10 December 2020 in his response to the Intend to Publish Plan. The Publication London Plan and its evidence base are now material considerations and have significant weight.
