Indeed, having both raced and entered cars at La Sarthe, it is to my mind the biggest and best motor race in the world. This year, Lola is privileged to have six teams running Huntingdon-built chassis. It is extremely pleasing to see three each of our LMP1 and LMP2 cars here and with such a variety of engines, too. You will find elsewhere in this media guide Lola’s complete results at Le Mans – an invitation to conjure up your own memories from the wonderful past of this uniquely demanding race – and also a peek into the future with the first images of our new LMP1 coupe. I have long believed that Lola’s fortunes are a barometer of the health of sportscar racing and at the moment the market is looking strong, with this weekend’s six Lola entries and the imminent arrival of the first-ever customer LMP1 coupe, the Lola B08/60. ! 1971 Chevron B19 Chassis No: 71-30 • A beautiful example of what is arguably Chevron’s most iconic 2-litre challenger, with complete and continuous provenance as documented in the all important OldRacingCars.com dossier by Allen Brown. • Supplied new to Ray Abrahams in South Africa, and originally sporting the attractive ‘RAYS’ livery before returning to England to compete in the Martini Trophy round of the European 2 Litre Sports Car Championship with Richard Scott in 1972. • After several owners in France during the 1970s, including Emile Elias, Chuck Graemiger, Lucien Rossiaud, Société Racing Organisation Course, Jacques Bringer, and Gerard Piroux, 71-30 returned to England once more and has been on track in full public view since 1981 with Richard Budge, Richard Piper, Steve Hodges and the current owner. • Highly successful in period and in historic racing, winning the 1972 South African 6 Hours, 1999 Thundersports, 2004 Orwell Supersports class winner, and 2014 Martini Trophy series overall winner. A giant beater; small, light and nimble at a fraction of the cost of a Lola T70 Mk3B. Chevron is the true British motor racing story, the talented engineer who started in a lock up garage and went on to be one of the worlds leading names in both sports car and single seater formula racing. No fewer than six former Chevron drivers went on to achieve World Champion status. An extraordinary talent, Derek Bennett was a brilliant and mainly self taught engineer with an impressive aptitude for repairing, modifying and sculpting race cars. Like so many of the great race car producers of his era, when he was not working at the track he could be found behind the wheel racing mostly custom built racing cars.
