Initially, the event was considered to be relatively small, involving local organizations. As the committee worked through the program, new ideas produced a wider range of activities for the weekend, which, in turn, attracted a larger public interest. Key achievements by the committee included: • Obtaining a substitute DC3 aircraft from “Air Nostalgia” due to Sir Reg’s DC3 being out of action. • 18 “Clipper” buses attending from many states of , including Glen Campe’s, originally owned by Reg Ansett. • Massive display of Veteran cars. • Light aircraft, joy flights, fire bomber displays, all at the aerodrome. • Official opening of a new building at the Museum. • Hosting a dinner on the Saturday night, at the Conference Centre, where the planned 70 guests turned into a capped figure of 250! • Attracting many of the Ansett family for the event, and Bob Ansett was the guest speaker at the Dinner. Jim and his Committee are to be congratulated for their enthusiastic approach to the weekend – a great example of Community involvement.
