This winter sport is a mixture of cross-country skiing and rifle shooting. Biathlon is difficult to play because here the athletes participating in a cross country skiing race are distracted by frequent stops to shoot at sequence of targets. Biathlon is a combination of five events − individual, sprint, pursuit, relay, and mass start. In this game, the athletes compete in cross country skiing and shoot series of targets from a distance. The athletes need to be fast, focussed, and have more stamina. Every time the target is missed the biathlete either gets an additional time or distance penalty. It is important that the skier is fast enough to maintain the competition but should be slow enough to maintain control. In this game the athletes carry a rifle and shoot the target from the distance of 50m. We are extremely proud to be the first city to achieve this record. To celebrate our unique history, we decided to name the event the Centenary Championships. The Centenary Championships are both an exciting and carefully prepared world-class sports event and one of the festivities that celebrate the centenary of Finland’s independence. A rare occasion for us Finns – and hopefully for our international guests. Lahti offers an optimal setting for record-breaking performances. The traditional venue has undergone extensive renovation and is now a fully functioning stadium that meets today’s requirements. We are also proud to have Vierumäki Olympic Training Center as our athlete’s village that allows the athletes to unwind and focus all their energy on performing at their best. We hope that the 2017 World Championships will leave their mark on future decades of sports events in Lahti and in Finland. The event has gained a great deal of popularity among young people, and we will soon have a new generation of volunteers for sports events.

    Verksamhetsberättelse 2011-2012 Svenska Skidskytteförbundet (SSSF) Verksamhetsberättelse 2011-05-01 till 2012-04-30 1 Verksamhetsberättelse 2011-2012 Sammanfattning o Övergripande Verksamhetsåret har varit det andra i genomförandet av förbundets verksamhetsplan för 2010/11 - 2013/14, där det övergripande målet är ’Sverige ska vara bland de 3 bästa landslagen och en av de 3 främsta världscuparrangörerna, med dubbelt så många aktiva’. Ett fortsatt arbete med att implementera de 6 kommittéerna: Föreningsutveckling, Tävling med ett regelutskott och aktivas forum, Idrott, Arrangemang, Marknad, Information & Media och Internationellt, i förbundets och styrelsens arbete har gjorts. Kommittéarbetet har varit värdefullt i många frågor där styrelsen erhållit underlag för beslut Vid SM i Sollefteå utdelades följande utmärkelser: • Årets ledare Hans Naucler, I21 IF • Årets skidskytt Carl-Johan Bergman, Ekshärad • Årets förening Lima SKG • Årets nykomling Chardine Sloof, Bore Biathlon Skidskytte fortsätter att vara en av Sveriges populäraste idrotter. Förändringen att skidskyttets internationella tävlingar (VM och WC) sändes med reklamavbrott i TV 4 fick dock till följd att tittarsiffrorna minskat under året. Noteras skall dock att antalet inslag och artiklar i rikstäckande media fortsatt att öka. Gångna årets resultat hamnar på + 981 474 kr, vilket är i linje med budget och stärker förbundets egna kapital. I IBU: s organ ingick under året Björn Eriksson i IBU Development Committée och Kari Korpela i IBU Tecnical Committée. Patrik Jemteborn har ingått i RF:s referensgrupp ”Centrum för idrottsevenemang". Ingemar Arwidson har ingått i den RF gruppering som arbetat med att ta fram en nationell strategi för att ta hem större internationella till Sverige Sponsorverksamheten har fortsatt att utvecklas positivt och sponsorintäkterna var under året återigen de högsta någonsin.
