2016 NEWSLETTER : WEEK 13 - JULY 16 ! Only Nantwich and Neston take full Premier points on another wet day WITH rain steadfastly refusing to relent, the League suffered again on Saturday with four matches in the ECB Premier League lost, plus two in the Second Division, while almost every game suffered reduced overs after hard work by players and helpers to shift covers and sheets The Premiership upshot is that with the top six teams failing to make it to the middle, Nantwich and Neston took the chance to chalk up important victories towards safeguarding their premiership futures. Neston moved off bottom spot with a six win over Timperley at Parkgate – their first since the season’s opening day. In a 78-overs game, Timperley reached 212-4 from 39 overs, Kiwi star Dan Cooper 97, Asif Iqbal 72. Neston topped that with 214-4 in 34 overs, David Hurst 90 and Simon Stokes, 76 enjoying a second stand worth 152. Nantwich are profiting from the return after injury of paceman Jimmy Warrington, who took 3-23 to help dismiss Urmston for 155 at the UCG, Callum Parkinson 83. Earlier the Dabbers had declared on 256-6 from 43 overs, Ryan Brown, 100 and skipper Ray Doyle, 88 adding 164 for the third wicket. Off were Bowdon v Chester; Hyde v Cheadle and Macclesfield v Bramhall, while Alderley’s innings at Toft lasted eight overs. This leaves the top places unchanged with Alderley Edge eying the home strait 44 points ahead of Bowdon. Oulton collapse at Didsbury DIDSBURY chalked up their ninth win in Division One when they edged through by two runs at home to Oulton Park, having posted 160-9, Tom Warren 55 not out, Guy Emmett 5-17. After being 125-1, Oulton collapsed to 158 all out, Pat Roberts 65, Martyn East 52, Rhys Davenport intervening with a match winning 4-18. Grappenhall stay second after trouncing Cheadle Hulme by eight wickets at Broad Lane, with James McCoy, 106 again in prime form. ‘Hulme had earlier posted 157-9 in their full 50 overs. Sale rise to third after beating Warrington by eight wickets at Dane road, Rick Halkon’s leg breaks claiming 3-35 and the outstanding Aussie Brooke Guest scoring 54. Wilden Cornwall was again in prime form for Weaverham, who beat Bollington by 116 runs at Wallerscote road. The Antigiuan all-rounder contributed 93 not out to his side’s 200-5, then took 4-32 to send the visitors back for 84. Tattenhall gave an improved performance at Davenham, collecting 14 points to their hosts’ seven. Leicestershire starlet Henry Dobson top- scored with 57 in Tatters’ 144-9, Danny Hancock claiming 6-28 from seven overs. Davenham replied with 82-7, Gavon Christian 41, Dave Shewring 3-17. Marple got on the field for only the second time in five weeks to trounce Oxton by 117 runs in the Wirral. Andrew Hall, 72 and Paul Wood, 64 top-scored in Marple’s 242-7, Shaaiq Choudhry 3-68. Only Jamie Crawley, 31, stood firm after tea as Oxton crumbled to 125 against James Menzies’ 5-33. Still no stopping Widnes WIDNES continued their winning ways in Division Two by seven wickets at Northwich, where play was cut to 62 overs. Northwich totalled 135-7, Chandra Wathukapage 47 and Widnes countered with 140-3, Danny Naughton 46. Stockport won by 26 runs in a low-scoring game at Brooklands after totalling only 117, James Barber 42. Brookands were bowled out for 91, Dave Madden 40, Mark Green 4-19. Christleton eased into mid-table with victory over Mobberley at Little Heath. Matt Astbury’s 55 helped the hosts post 148, Abdul Aqeel 4-23. JULY 16 NEWSLETTER: p6 ! Nick Liddell’s 6-10 for Timperley vets BEST individual performance of the week in the Over 40s section came from Timperley’s Nick Liddell, who returned figures of 4-1-10-6 in a 85-run home victory over Ashley. Timperley still trail joint Central Division leaders Toft and Grappenhall as both also collected full points, albeit by Toft only after Davenham had conceded to them a few hours before the game. Bredbury Saints and Poynton Legends were the only winners in the South-East Division leaving Bollington Veterans and Alderley Edge Wizards in the top two places. Neston lost their first West Division game of the season by six wickets at Chester Boughton Hall Blazers which virtually assures Chester of runners-up spot. In the North-East Division unbeaten leaders Cheadle Hulme’s key home game against Urmston Tigers was rained off, while Sale Silverbacks won at Brooklands to improve their second placing. In the event of level points for top and second places in the final tables, progress will be decided by the team with the most wins, then fewest defeats and, if still equal results of games against one another. If still equal, by a toss of the coin. REMINDER: Clubs e-mailing results please use [email protected]. The League website remains the preferred method for reporting results.
