The was opened in 1607 by archbishop Federico Borromei to bring knowledge to the general public. His idea to help the community brought about one of the most beautiful libraries in Milan. In here you’ll get a chance to see manuscripts by some of the most important minds of the past such as Machiavelli, Galileo, and the entire collection of Cesare Beccaria (the first theorist to speak out against the death penalty).
