Erosive rainfall varies pronouncedly in time and space. Severe events are often restricted to a few square kilometers. Rain radar data with high spatio-temporal resolution enable this pattern of erosivity to be portrayed for the first time. We used radar data collected with a spatial resolution of 1 km² for 452 503 km² to derive a new erosivity map for Germany and to analyze the seasonal distribution of erosivity. Extraordinarily large filtering was necessary to extract the 15 expected long-term regional pattern from the scattered pattern of events. Filtering included averaging 2001 to 2017 and smoothing in time and space. The pattern of the resulting map generally agreed well with the previous map based on regressions of rain gauge data (mainly from the 1960s to 1980s). The pattern was predominantly shaped by orography. However, the new map has more detail; it deviates in some regions where the regressions previously used were weak; most importantly, it shows that erosivity is about 66% higher than in the map previously used.

This has made elderly people and their quality of life a matter of ever-increasing medical concern. Available data from the United States and Scandinavia relating to erectile dysfunction (ED) do not enable us to draw valid conclusions about the current situation in Germany. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the epidemiology of male sexuality in Germany, and the proportion of men who need medical treatment because of increased suffering from this. A newly developed and validated questionnaire on male erectile dysfunction was mailed to a representative population sample of 8000 men, 30±80 y of age in the Cologne urban district. The response included 4489 evaluable replies (56.1%). The response rates in different age groups ranged from 49.2% to 68.4%. Regular sexual activity was reported by 96.0% (youngest age group) to 71.3% (oldest group). There were 31.5%±44% of responders who were dissatis®ed with their current sex life.

Although the First World War was over, Germany began a new and violent chapter as an outbreak of civil war threatened to tear the country apart. The birth of the Weimar Republic, Germany’s first democratic government, did not begin smoothly as republican institutions failed to re-establish centralized political and military authority in the wake of the collapse of the imperial regime. Coupled with painful aftershocks from defeat in the Great War, the immediate postwar era had only one consistent force shaping and guiding political and cultural life: violence.

Foreign Companies in the Rhineland 2019 OBJECTIVES AND METHODOLOGY OF THE STUDY This survey is designed to show that the Rhineland is truly international due to the large number of foreign companies that are members of seven Chambers of Industry and Commerce. These are collaborating in the „Rheinland Initiative“, in this case the Chambers of Aachen, Bonn / Rhein-Sieg, Düsseldorf, Duisburg, Köln, Mittlerer Niederrhein and the Bergische Chamber. The Chambers of the „Rheinland Initiative“ are promoting the enhancement of the traffic infrastructure, regional concepts to create qualified jobs and a future-orientated policy on industry and real estate. They support the optimizing of networks with R&D institutions and the development of manufacturing industries, trade, logistics, tourism, hotel and catering industry, trade fair and event business. All this contributes to the promotion of the Metropolregion Rhineland as a national and international business location. The foreign member companies of the Chambers of Industry and Commerce are made up of the foreign companies registered in the Commercial Register and small businesses with foreign nationality of the business owner. There is no consistent definition of what a foreign enterprise is. In this study, the term refers to enterprises that meet one of thefollowing criteria: Enterprises registered in the Commercial Register: At least 50 per cent owned by one or more foreign resident companies or natural persons. Companies not registered in the Commercial Register: The owner is a foreign national. Companies whose owner is a German citizen with a migrant background are not included. Entered in the commercial register are those companies that have a commercially established business.
