Governor Research and Statistics Section iii Provincial Planning and Development Office PROVINCE OF ILOILO 2012 Annual Provincial Profile Republic of the Philippines Province of Iloilo Message of the Vice Governor he famous musician, Quincy Jones, Jr. once said, “Imagine what a harmonious world it could be if every Tsingle person, both young and old shared a little of what he is good at doing”. The prominence and respectability of the Province of Iloilo holds right now; the vast achievements it enjoys at this point in time are from the concerted efforts of its officials and its people. Where there is transparency, competence, honesty and accountability among officials and active cooperation and participation among its people, the Province will continue to move forward in order to reach one milestones after another thus reflecting its distinction from other provinces. Indeed, the cry for “reform and change” has proven to be not merely a political battle-cry but instead has steadfastly moved forward and now remains a reality as the Governor of the province of Iloilo, Honorable Arthur D. Defensor, Sr., so aptly and vividly describes it. The Iloilo Provincial Government continues to commit itself to this noble endeavor: to fight for reforms and rally behind positive changes. OSCAR “RICHARD” S. GARIN JR. Vice Governor Research and Statistics Section iv Provincial Planning and Development Office PROVINCE OF ILOILO 2012 Annual Provincial Profile Republic of the Philippines Province of Iloilo Message of the PPDC he year 2012 is full of challenges and opportunities for the Province of Iloilo. Agriculture production is as its best in the Province while investments in real properties in the city come at enormous values. Launching of several significant Tprojects is almost the call of the day, both in the city and province. In the city of Iloilo, new infrastructure and real property developments from hotels, condominiums, housing subdivisions, esplanades, ports, roads and bridges are changing the city’s landscape. In the province, a bumper harvest occupies the rural landscapes. Rural roads are being upgraded, new road networks developed and bridges are being upgraded to national standards. As the momentum of growth continues, Iloilo is projected to be a major player in the development of the country. This is an undeniable fact since the signs and sights are obvious around the city and province. Development is here and would continue to be around us now and the years ahead. All these development are brought to us by our dynamic and development- oriented political leaders in the city and province of Iloilo. The Ilonggos’ entrepreneurial spirits complement the gesture of our political leaders as well. As we are charting our growth, it is but important that facts and figures are available to those who are and would be interested; be it an investor, researcher, students, guests and friends. It is with this purpose that the Provincial Planning and Development Office prepared and will continue to prepare the Socio-Economic Profile of the Province of Iloilo. We have been preparing this publication for the past years and will continue to do it for the sake of the need for facts and figures about the city and Province of Iloilo. I am confident that this annual publication will be an instrument for more investments and social and economic opportunities for the Province of Iloilo. God Bless and More Power. MARIO N.
