Esquivias Assistant National Statistician National Censuses Service ISSN 0117-1453 FOREWORD The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) conducted the 2015 Census of Population (POPCEN 2015) in August 2015 primarily to update the country’s population and its demographic characteristics, such as the size, composition, and geographic distribution. Report No. 3 – Population, Land Area, and Population Density is among the series of publications that present the results of the POPCEN 2015. This publication provides information on the population size, land area, and population density by region, province, highly urbanized city, and city/municipality based on the data from population census conducted by the PSA in the years 2000, 2010, and 2015; and data on land area by city/municipality as of December 2013 that was provided by the Land Management Bureau (LMB) of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR). Also presented in this report is the percent change in the population density over the three census years. The population density shows the relationship of the population to the size of land where the population resides. -

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY The Negros Oriental Chamber of Commerce and Industry Inc. (NOCCI), being the only recognized voice of business in the Province of Negros Oriental, Philippines, developed the TIP PROJECT or the TRADE TOURISM and INVESTMENT PROMOTION ("TIP" for short) PROJECT to support its mission in conducting trade, tourism and investment promotion, business development activities and enhancement of the business environment of the Province of Negros Oriental. The TIP Project was conceptualized during the last quarter of 2013 and was launched in January, 2014 as the banner project of the Chamber to support its new advocacy for inclusive growth and local economic development through job creation and investment promotion. The banner project was coined from the word “tip” - which means giving sound business advice or sharing relevant information and expertise to all investors, businessmen, local government officials and development partners. The TIP Project was also conceptualized to highlight the significant role and contribution of NOCCI as a champion for local economic development and as a banner project of the Chamber to celebrate its Silver 25th Anniversary by December, 2016. For two years, from January, 2015 to December, 2016, NOCCI worked closely with its various partners in local economic development like the Provincial Government, Local Government Units (LGUs), National Government Agencies (NGAs), Non- Government Organizations (NGOs), Industry Associations and international funding agencies in implementing its various job creation programs and investment promotion activities to market Negros Oriental as an ideal investment/business destination for tourism, retirement, retail, business process outsourcing, power/energy and agro-industrial projects. -

As of 07:00 AM Philippine Standard Time (PST) of 08 November 2019 (Friday), the total number of earthquakes recorded since the 29 October 2019 Magnitude 6.6 earthquake event is now 2226, with 917 plotted and 161 felt at various intensities. Figure 1 shows earthquake plots as of 07 November 2019 (6PM). Figure 1. Estimation of Local Poverty in the Philippines November 2005 Republika ng Pilipinas PAMBANSANG LUPON SA UGNAYANG PANG-ESTADISTIKA (NATIONAL STATISTICAL COORDINATION BOARD) http://www.nscb.gov.ph in cooperation with The WORLD BANK Estimation of Local Poverty in the Philippines FOREWORD This report is part of the output of the Poverty Mapping Project implemented by the National Statistical Coordination Board (NSCB) with funding assistance from the World Bank ASEM Trust Fund. The methodology employed in the project combined the 2000 Family Income and Expenditure Survey (FIES), 2000 Labor Force Survey (LFS) and 2000 Census of Population and Housing (CPH) to estimate poverty incidence, poverty gap, and poverty severity for the provincial and municipal levels. We acknowledge with thanks the valuable assistance provided by the Project Consultants, Dr. Stephen Haslett and Dr. Geoffrey Jones of the Statistics Research and Consulting Centre, Massey University, New Zealand. Ms. Caridad Araujo, for the assistance in the preliminary preparations for the project; and Dr. Peter Lanjouw of the World Bank for the continued support. The Project Consultants prepared Chapters 1 to 8 of the report with Mr. Joseph M. Addawe, Rey Angelo Millendez, and Amando Patio, Jr. of the NSCB Poverty Team, assisting in the data preparation and modeling. The results of the investigation demonstrate that the hazardous substances and pollutants present in the water bodies has genotoxic and cytotoxic effects on Alliumcepa cells and there could be a potential threat to the human health as well as to the water ecosystems in and around Metro Manila. -

Mendoza, Jr.1 and Kosaku Yamaoka2 1 Coastal Resouces management Unit, Bicol University Tabaco Campus, (Tabaco, Albay 4511, Philippines) 2 Graduate School of Kuroshio Science, Kochi University (Monobe, Nankoku, Kochi 783-8502, Japan) Abstract Lagonoy Gulf is a major fishing ground in the Philippines. It is large (3071 km2) and deep (80% of its area is 800-1200 m) where channels opening to the Pacific Ocean are entrenched. Its annual fishery production of 26,000 MT in 1994 slightly decreased to 20,000 MT in 2004. During the same 10-year period, catches of higher order, predatory fishes decreased and were replaced by herbivores and planktivores. Scombrids such as tunas and mackerels composed 51-54% of total harvest. Of the 480 fish species identified in the gulf, 131 or 27% are seaweed-associated or these fishes have utilized the seaweed habitat for juvenile settlement, refuge, breeding and feeding sites. The seaweeds occupy solely distinct beds (e.g., Sargassum) or overlap with seagrass and coral reef areas. About half of all fishes (49.6% or 238 species) are coral reef fishes. The most speciose fish genera are Chaetodon (19 spp.), Lutjanus (18 spp.), Pomacentrus (17 spp.) and Siganus (14 spp.). Among them, Siganus (Siganids or rabbitfishes) is the most speciose, commercially-important genus contributing 560 mt-yr-1 to the total fishery production, including about 60 mt siganid juvenile catch. -
