Kina har lenge vært kjent noe av forklaringen til bloggsuksessen som for å drive verdens strengeste internettsen- startet i usa gjennom selskap som blog- sur, blant annet ved å sensurere ord som ger.com. I dag finnes det 16,7 millioner “demokrati” og “menneskerettigheter” i blogger i verden, ifølge bloggsøkemotoren søkemotorer,1 men de siste årene har også Technorati,3 og disse favner om et vidt iranske myndigheter skjønt at internett er spekter av genre, alt fra personlige dagbøk- farlig for landets innbyggere. Først slo de er, politiske kommentarer og litterære ned på pornografiske sider som ikke søm- eksperimenter til foto-, video- og met seg for iranske statsborgere, men etter audioblogger. Blogger har fått gjennomslag hvert har myndighetene skjønt at politiske i amerikansk media etter avsløringer av fak- nettsider er minst like fordervende som tafeil hos blant annet programleder Dan pupper og lår. Det siste it-sjefene i Teheran Rather i 60 Minutes II. Coming to Grips with Life in the Disinformation Age “The Information Age” is the term given to post-World War II contemporary society, particularly from the Sixties, onward, when we were coming to the realization that our ability to publish information of all kinds, fact and fiction, was increasing at an exponential rate so as to make librarians worry that they would soon run out of storage space. Their storage worries were temporarily allayed by the advent of the common use of microform analog photography of printed materials, and eventually further by digital technology and nanotechnology. It is noted that in this era, similar to other past eras of great growth in communications technology such as written language, the printing press, analog recording, and telecommunication, dramatic changes occurred as well in human thinking and socialness. More ready archiving negatively impacted our disposition to remember things by rote, including, in recent times, our own phone numbers. Moreover, many opportunities for routine socializing were lost, particularly those involving public speech and readings, live music and theater, live visits to neighbors and friends, etc. The recognition that there had been a significant tradeoff from which there seemed to be no turning back evoked discussion of how to come to grips with “life in the Information Age”. Perhaps we could discover new social and intellectual opportunities from our technological advances to replace the old ones lost, ways made available by new technology. Today we are facing a new challenge, also brought on largely by new technology: that of coming to grips with life in the “Disinformation Age”. -

150 / JOURNAL OF COMPARATIVE LITERATURE AND AESTHETICS Theorising Post-Truth: A Postmodern Phenomenon Amina Hussain In times of universal deceit, telling the truth will be a revolutionary act. —George Orwell Introduction ny discussion of post-truth implies an assumed understanding of truth. In order to analyse post-truth, one has to at first grapple, with the notion of Atruth. Does truth refer to facts and evidence? Can we access an objective truth and if there never was any ‘real’ truth and only truths, then what is this sudden fuss over post-truth and what are its implications? These questions in themselves pose a very postmodernist scepticism about the truth in general. If truth then is so precarious, then what are the theoretical groundings of the post –truth. In my paper I will critically evaluate the phenomenon of post-truth and its relationship with postmodernism, accentuated with the rise of social media. There has been an evident surge in the academic publications on post-truth with writers like, Michiku Kakutani, Lee McIntyre and Ari Rabin-Havt along with Palgrave Macmillan anthology on Post-truth and contemporary society shows the urgency of the post- truth debate. Post-truth today as it exist, is an extreme manipulation of the fertile grounds laid by postmodern theories. Both cultural critic Kakutani and McIntyre hurriedly trace Trump era post-truth politics which has had a ripple effect through out the world,with the rise of the right wingers to the postmodernism. Trump or other right wing politicians may not quote Foucault, Derrida or Lyotard but as McIntyre writes “the germ of the idea made its way to them.” The paper will analyse the “germ” in the more nuanced perspective of the major postmodernist theories and its direct or indirect bearings on the present post-truth scenario. -

Lance Bennett Department of Communication Democracy in America is threatened by an increased level of false information circulating through online media networks. Previous research has found that radical right media such as Fox News and Breitbart are the principal incubators and distributors of online disinformation. In this dissertation, I draw attention to their political mobilizing logic and propose a new theoretical framework to analyze major radical right media in the U.S. Contrasted with the old partisan media literature that regarded radical right media as partisan news organizations, I argue that media outlets such as Fox News and Breitbart are better understood as hybrid network organizations. This means that many radical right media can function as partisan journalism producers, disinformation distributors, and in many cases political organizations at the same time. They not only provide partisan news reporting but also engage in a variety of political activities such as spreading disinformation, conducting opposition research, contacting voters, and campaigning and fundraising for politicians. In addition, many radical right media are also capable of forming emerging political organization networks that can mobilize resources, coordinate actions, and pursue tangible political goals at strategic moments in response to the changing political environment. -
