We invite the parish to come together to read and reflect on a book together. We hope this will be the beginning of a lively conversation. Our first book is Reza Aslan’s No god but God. St. James Immigrant Assistance invites you to learn more about Islam and the Muslims in our communities by joining us in reading No god but God, a history of Islam. Available in the Cathedral Bookstore, online, and at local bookstores.

“Religion has an intrinsic vocation to promote peace, today perhaps more than ever…. Our task is that of praying for one another, imploring from God the gift of peace, encountering one another, engaging in dialogue and promoting harmony in the spirit of cooperation and friendship. For our part, as Christians – and I am a Christian – ‘we cannot truly pray to God the Father of all if we treat any people as other than brothers and sisters, for all are created in God’s image.’“ — Pope Francis

Get the book, finish it by July 24, and then join us for an open and lively facilitated discussion. Bring your questions, thoughts, and reactions.

ARCHBISHOP RAYMOND G. HUNTHAUSEN Charity Golf Tournament & Benefit Dinner

Since 1997, the Hunthausen Charity Golf Tournament and Benefit Dinner has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars to support the neediest of our community. This year the event will be held Monday, August 27, 2018 at Glendale Country Club in Bellevue.

This important event supports our Cathedral Kitchen, serving 150+ hot, nutritious meals every weeknight, all year round, to homeless and low-income men, women, and children in the downtown area. The tournament also supports other important Cathedral outreach ministries, including our Solanus Casey Center, Immigrant Assistance Program, and Mental Health Ministry.

Last year, the tournament raised over $150,000 for our neighbors in need. Will you be a part of this year’s event? If you are not a golfer, consider sponsoring the tournament and being a part of the HUNTHAUSEN BENEFIT DINNER AND AUCTION, so you can join in the end-of-the-day celebration. It’s a lot of fun for a very good cause!

RETURN FORM TO: Maria Laughlin, St. James Cathedral, 804 9th Avenue, Seattle, WA 98104 or [email protected]. ST. JAMES CATHEDRAL PARISH

We are the cathedral for the Catholic Archdiocese of Seattle and its Archbishop, The Most Reverend J. Peter Sartain. We are also a parish church for a vibrant faith community with a long history that reaches back to Seattle’s early days. We are an inner-city parish with an outreach to many who live on the edge of poverty and loneliness. We are a diverse community that welcomes, accepts, and celebrates the differences we all bring. We exist in the heart of the city, yet sometimes our parishioners come from considerable distances to worship here. St. James Cathedral is a crossroads where ideas and challenges both old and new are explored in the light of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Our cathedral is also the center for many cultural and ecumenical events which both reflect and help to shape the fabric of a vital metropolitan community. Above all, St. James Cathedral is a community of prayer.
