“Suwa Taisha” is the generic name of 4 shrines(Kamisha Maemi- ya, Honmiya, Shimosha Akimiya, Harumiya) surrounded by Lake Suwa. It is one of the most ancient shrines in Japan. These 4 shrines are the head shrine of Suwa Taisha which spreads all over the country. Characteristics of Suwa Taisha however shows no symbol to worship within the shrine. Shrines like Akimiya and Harumiya's worshipping objects are yew tree and cedar respectively. The building without main symbol is the typical ancient style of Japanese shrine and Suwa Shrine remains the style of the Suwa Taisha Shimosha Akimiya ancient way. Suwa Shrine has been worshiped since ancient time as both the guardian spirit of wind and water. It is also worshiped as the god for abundant crop and fortune of war.
