[email protected] Abstract of the Proposed Talk: One of the goals of IPPW has been to bring about international collaboration. Establishing collaboration, especially in the area of EDL, can present numerous frustrating challenges. IPPW presents opportunities to present advances in various technology areas. It allows for opportunity for general discussion. Evaluating collaboration potential requires open dialogue as to the needs of the parties and what critical capabilities each party possesses. Understanding opportunities for collaboration as well as the rules and regulations that govern collaboration are essential. The authors of this proposed talk have explored and established collaboration in multiple areas of interest to IPPW community. The authors will present examples that illustrate the motivations for the partnership, our common goals, and the unique capabilities of each party. The first example involves earth entry of a large asteroid and break-up. NASA Ames is leading an effort for the agency to assess and estimate the threat posed by large asteroids under the Asteroid Threat Assessment Project (ATAP). -

Solar Frontier and Chopro Agree 29 MW Megasolar Project with Nagasaki Government to Build and Operate Prefecture’S Largest Megasolar Power Plant at Nagasaki Airport
NEWS RELEASE Solar Frontier and Chopro Agree 29 MW Megasolar Project with Nagasaki Government To build and operate Prefecture’s largest megasolar power plant at Nagasaki Airport Tokyo-April 1st 2014 -Solar Frontier and Chopro announced today that they have signed a letter of agreement with the Nagasaki Prefectural Government and the Land Development Public Corporation of Nagasaki Prefecture for a 29 MW megasolar power plant on land adjoining Nagasaki Airport, Japan. The agreement, regarding the construction and operation of the solar power plant, was signed on March 31, 2014. The upcoming megasolar project will be the largest in Nagasaki Prefecture and one of the largest in Japan. “Our Nagasaki project integrates the economical advantages of Solar Frontier’s CIS solar energy system solutions, from supplying high-performance CIS modules through to Operation & Maintenance, with Chopro’s expertise as an energy supplier local to Nagasaki,” said Hiroto Tamai, President and Representative Director of Solar Frontier. “Together with leading regional companies like Chopro, we will continue to meet the high demand for solar projects that offer competitive and reliable returns on investment.” After the Kansai International Airport Megasolar Power Plant, this will be the second large-scale installation at an airport that leverages Solar Frontier’s CIS thin-film technology. Compared to crystalline silicon modules, Solar Frontier’s CIS modules have a higher electricity yield (kWh/kWp) in real operating conditions, while their anti-glare properties ensure they don’t affect aircraft operations. “Our joint project is built on a history of trust with Solar Frontier. We now look forward to working on one of the world’s largest installations at an airport – at home in Nagasaki – and to contributing to the region’s economic growth and renewable energy initiative,” said Kenji Araki, Representative Director of Chopro. -

During the accompanying literature study, it was determined that the technology readiness level is sufficiently high for upper stage reusability. However, it was unsure whether a cost-effective system could be build. I have been interested in the field of Entry, Descent, and Landing ever since I joined the Capsule Team of Delft Aerospace Rocket Engineering (DARE). During my time within the team, it split up in the Structures Team and Recovery Team. In September 2016, I became Chief Recovery for the Stratos III student-built sounding rocket. During this time, I realised that there was a lack of fundamental knowledge in aerodynamic decelerators within DARE. -

The earlier and easier way is as follows: First, you have to go to Osaka (Itami) Airport by limousine bus from Kansai International Airport. It takes about 75 minutes and the bus fare is 1,700 yen. Next, you go to Fukushima Airport by domestic air from Osaka (Itami) Airport. It takes about 65 minutes and the air fare is 25,500 - 27,500 yen. Finally, you go to Koriyama Railway station by limousine bus from Fukushima Airport. It takes about 40 minutes and the bus fare is 800 yen. You can also take a taxi from Fukushima Airport to Koriyama Railway station, it takes about 30 minutes and the taxi fare is about 6,000 yen.
