The following people were present: Commissioners: Tom Kramer Robin Theobald Jenny Lundin Mara Sobeck Gene Sosville Tony Wilson Staff: Jennifer Cram APPROVAL OF MINUTES Minutes from the June 4, 2014, meeting were approved as submitted, as motioned by Mara and seconded by Gene. APPROVAL OF AGENDA The agenda was approved as submitted. AGENDA Updates Public Art Program Updates Breckenridge Theatre Gallery The new show featuring the paintings of Leona Sophocles Brownson was hung on June 24th. There will be a closing reception on Tuesday, July 29th from 6-8 pm. Sculpture on the Blue Signage is installed. There have been 3 signs vandalized. Public Works is assisting in getting them fixed. The brochures will be printed and ready by July 7th. The public reception will be held on Wednesday, September 3rd during the regularly scheduled meeting from 4-6 pm. Albert Paley “Syncline” Agreement Contracts are signed and the first installment of $45,000 has been paid. Albert Paley will be present for the Arts District Preview. He will give a public presentation at the Breckenridge Theatre on Friday, September 26th from 4-5:30 pm on his work and the art of Placemaking. Jennifer will be working with the Cultural Arts Division on several press releases. It was noted that Rocky Mountain PBS should be contacted to see if they could show one of his DVD’s prior to his visit. Art Around Town Tours Tours have been successful; we have had 3-5 people each tour. A special tour is planned on Thursday, August 7th for the Road Scholars. Janis and Jennifer will lead the tour. Discussion Items Roundabout Sculpture – “Environmental Art” and “Environmental Graphics” Jennifer has made contact with to Dan Snow, Chris Booth and Ilan Averbuch. All 3 will prepare proposals. Proposals are due on August 1st. 07-02-2014 North Main Street Park “Tom’s Baby” Sculpture The Commission each shared up to 3 sculptors that resonated with them for the project. A list of 6 sculptors was created from all that were presented including, Gary Prazen, Seth Vandable, Teresa Hansen, Bobbie Carlyle, Jane DeDecker and Angela Mia De laVega. Jennifer and Robb will share the list and discuss next steps with Mike Dudick on July 15th. The Commission would also like to keep the door open in the event that they find a sculptor that they like at the annual retreat to the Loveland Sculpture Show on August 8th. Goebel Family Donation A subcommittee was formed including Gene, Tony and Jennifer to meet with the Goebel’s to explain the donation process and to learn more about what they are interested in. Jennifer will reach to the Goebel’s on July 8th to set up a meeting. Annual Retreat The Commission will attend the Loveland Sculpture Show on Friday, August 8th. This will be an all day event. The purpose of annual retreats is to learn about new programs and to provide opportunities for teambuilding outside of regular meetings. Action Items Action Items from October 2nd 2013 • The subcommittee will meet with Riverwalk Center staff and Public Works to discuss the relocation of the Nest. Pending Action Items from January 8th 2014 • Additional information on quilt archiving. Pending Action Items from June 4th 2014 • Press release to share the diversity of sculptures and sculptors from around the country in this year’s show. Pending, Public Reception September 3rd • Sketches due from environmental sculptors in August. Complete, Proposals will be reviewed on August 6th • Commission to research sculptors for “Tom’s Baby” and create a short list. Complete, will also look at Loveland Sculpture Show on August 8th • Jennifer to reach to the Goebel family to learn more about their vision for a donation. Complete, Subcommittee meeting held on July 15th • Details of the retreat to the Loveland Sculpture Show in August.
