Discussion Items

Roundabout Sculpture – “Environmental Art” Proposals The Commission received proposals from Dan Snow, Ilan Averbuch and Chris Booth via mail. Each sculptor presented their proposals via conference call. Each sculptor had 45 minutes to present and then answer questions. All presentations went well. Because presentations ran later into the evening, the Commission decided to discuss them on the bus ride down to Loveland on Friday, August 8th as part of their annual retreat.

North Main Street Park “Tom’s Baby” Sculpture Jennifer recapped the meeting with Mike Dudick on July 15th. The short list of sculptors was shared with him. He was pleased with the quality of the list. The Commission also wanted the opportunity to see if any additional 08-06-2014 sculptors resonated with them while in Loveland. Next steps include getting some prices on some of the existing pieces that were presented, getting photos of the site where photo opportunities will exist and then drafting the project intent. The goal is to get a Call to out first part of September.

Goebel Family Donation Jennifer shared the piece “Infinity Circle” that the Goebel’s expressed interest in. The Commission liked the piece, but had concerns about locating it outside due to the ceramic material that it was created from. All agreed that the scale was too small for the Speakeasy location as well. The Goebel’s also entertained a budget for doing a piece that fit better in front of the new Speakeasy. All agreed that the Commission would look for possibilities at the Loveland Sculpture show and the Goebel’s would continue to look as well. The goal for all donations is to find a piece that the donors are passionate about and that the Commission supports as being a good addition to the collection with regard to location, subject matter, materials, etc. as noted in the Art in Public Places Master Plan. All are excited about the opportunity.

Annual Retreat The Commission will go to Loveland on Friday, August 8th. This will be an all day event. The Commission will meet at 8 am in the Riverwalk Center parking lot. The plan is to attend the Loveland Sculpture Invitational from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm, have lunch and then go to the opening reception of Sculpture in the Park at 3 pm. The Commission will be looking for potential for the Goebel donation, Dudick family donation and to grow the sculptor distribution list for future calls to Artists.
